Welcome to the VGChartz Gap charts. The charts will be updated monthly and each article will focus on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation, and will also compare the 8th generation consoles. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.
PS4 Vs. Wii U Global:
Gap change in latest month: 576,213 – PS4
Gap change over last 12 months: 10,896,239 – PS4
Total Lead: 12,743,757 – PS4
PS4 Total Sales: 22,389,944
Wii U Total Sales: 9,646,187
In its 18th month on sale the PlayStation 4 increased its lead over the Wii U. The PlayStation 4 outsold the Wii U by 576,213 units. The PlayStation 4 is now 12.74 million units ahead of the Wii U. The PlayStation 4 has sold 22.39 million units, while the Wii U has sold 9.65 million units.

Wow wiiU hasn't even broken 10 Million. It really speaks truth of the console that has been out for over 3yrs. Love Nintendo games, hate their consoles. Kind of wish they would get out of the console making and just 3rd Party their games. If this happens with their next console it might just be that.
The Wii U came out in November 2012. It is currently June 2015. Mind explaining how that's "over three years"?
So funny how people are still calling for Nintendo to go third party when they're making the most money and are the LEAST likely of the hardware manufacturers to go third party.
So never going to happen lol. They either make their own console or leave the gaming industry which just isn't going to happen. Nintendo's done really well getting bad to profit after the Wii U had hit them really hard. A lot of the new changes they are making this generation will hopefully be a big help for then in the next. A big company like Nintendo wouldn't benefit from going third-party at all.
