Fallout 4 Officially Announced, Debut Trailer Released

Fallout 4 Officially Announced, Debut Trailer Released - News

by Craig S , posted on 03 June 2015 / 3,588 Views

As was hinted yesterday, Bethesda has today announced Fallout 4. The debut trailer for the game was released simultaneously on YouTube and via a Twitch livestream just moments ago. You can view it below:

The trailer itself doesn't mention a release window, although there's widespread speculation that the engine shown in the trailer suggests a 2015 release. One thing the trailer does confirm is that the game is coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC - so it is not a cross-generation title.

The YouTube description also confirms that Bethesda’s E3 Showcase on Sunday, June 14th at 7:00pm PT will feature world premiere gameplay for Fallout 4.

Good, they finally remembered how to put colors in a videogame. This game is a lot prettier to watch than the PS3 Fallout games.

I dunno, I never thought post-apocalyptic games needed color. It detracts from the whole "everything is fucked" vibe.

Now, this looks like something interesting, Bioshock-y in a way.

Awesome trailer! Love the song they played in the first half! Was anyone else worried about the dog during the whole trailer?

In terms of visuals, this game is leaps and bounds above Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Looks like a world I really want to explore. Can't wait!

No it isn't. There is no signs of DX11 features so most likely going to be very poor visuals for an 8th gen exclusive.

The only thing that i expect from Bethseda this time is a game that works flawlessly.
Fallout 3 has so many bugs that I’m even don't know where to start:

  • in game scenes not loading properly
  • NPC acting totally strange
  • being stuck at some places of the map
  • conversations going totally out of sync etc...
The game was fun, but to properly enjoy it, i have to close my eyes for a lot of bugs and errors.

Yup, my GOTY edition started to crash more often the more of the game you completed. It eventually became unplayable. It's clearly the same shitty engine from Morrowind so it will remain unstable.

Why? That doesn't look really that interesting and the graphics are straight from 2010.

Cool, looks slightly better than NV I guess, hopefully there's full mod support and I expect a heap of bugs as usual with them still using Gamebryo.

Looks terrible. It is clearly the same engine which is why the graphics are dire (worse than Bioshock:Inf which was last gen).
Graphics are only a little thing, but if they can't get good graphics then how can they make modern gameplay and other technical aspects e.g. a more stable game, bigger cities etc? It just smacks of devs who don't know how to program to save their lives and I'm calling it now, this game will be a raging disappointment; unstable, last gen graphics, small towns, lots of loading screens, poor AI etc.

Seriously, I don't even know where to begin with this post. But I'll humour you. Bioshock Infinite for one does not look anywhere near as good as this game does. But also, Bioshock Infinite is not open world, so therefore its a poor comparison in the first place. Secondly, it most certainly doesn't look terrible either. Granted its not up to something on face value like the Witcher, but it doesn't need to be. Fallout 3 and New Vegas were hardly stars of the visual show on the last gen consoles were they? Did they rate highly in all reviews? Yes. Did they sell by the bucketloads regardless of visuals? Yes. Did those two games alone even having poorish graphics by last gens standards scupper the excitement for the possibility of Fallout 4? Absolutely not. And one more thing, how can you possibly say that because the graphics are not top notch that it automatically means the rest of the game will fall flat on its face. Go and have a look at Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas, Skyrim. None of them were visual showpieces but they all score highly on Metacritic regardless and are all regardless as classics. Sometimes, as much as you might not want to hear it, graphics don't come top of the pile.

And regards to the fact that you're "calling it now", lets come back here shall we on release and see who is right. The game, whether it releases in 2015 or 2016, I'd guarantee would be in most top 5 game lists of the year.

I know, a new game of a good series was just announced and I'm already bashing the holy hell out of it, but bare with me.

Reviews mean nothing. We all know websites give 9/10 for any AAA game as not to upset their users. Its smart business practice but more biased than Fifa and as useful as a lead balloon for judging the quality of a game. The graphics on all Beth. games (bar Oblivion) have been poor and have reduced the immersion. RPGs greatly benefit from good graphics and I know this first hand playing Skyrim with a hundred'ish mods (ENB being one of them ofc). Better visuals do make a game better, but they won't fix poor gameplay...

...but this is the problem. The visuals gave away the engine they are using (the same shitty one), and this means you will have huge limitations and a lot of dev time will be wasted. Want a wall to break? In that engine it will take a few hours to do. A new engine does that in a few clicks. Want a big immersive city? Can't happen due to limited object/poly rendering. Complex AI? Nope. The list goes on.

If you want Fallout 3: Xbone/PS4 version, then this is the game for you. But if you want Fallout 4, a fully 8th gen game, then I doubt that will arrive from what they have shown.
