MMO WildStar Going Free-to-Play

MMO WildStar Going Free-to-Play - News

The MMO WildStar is going free-to-play this fall, NCSoft has announced. The decision to go free-to-play has been made in order to bring more players into the game.

"Since launch we’ve listened to all of your feedback and worked hard to improve your game experience. Part of that goal has always been to bring more players in to experience WildStar, and that's what Free-to-Play is all about. Below you will find the valuable information you need to continue to enjoy your time on Nexus. And if you’re new to WildStar, this is a great place to start your adventure.

Players can acquire the game, create an account, login and play through everything the game has to offer without spending any money, so yes, we do mean free. That said, we will also offer completely optional in-game purchases that cover a wide range of player services, convenience options, and cosmetic offerings."

Even with going to F2P, the game simply doesn't have the brand strength to gather attention to be sustainable. Hope this move works out for them though...

Was interested in trying this before, but didn't think it was worth the monthly fee. I was surprised when they announced this game would have a subscription fee. I might try it in the fall. Clearly, the monthly subscription fee doesn't work for many; WoW and Final Fantasy 15 come to mind.

FF XIV is the MMO everyone should be playing now. Even ex WoW players I know have migrated to XIV from WoW

FFXIV is a good game, but its problem is that its severely slower paced than WoW and other western MMO's. I dont think every WoW player would be able to adapt. Besides, the raiding is still the best in WoW. Good that both games strive because i like them both, but that long Global CD in FFXIV can be a pace killer.

I was thinking of getting back into this game. I may do so now. It was fun

If WoW couldn't survive as pay to play anymore then Wildstar certainly wouldn't.

So many tried to be or take on WoW and this seems to be the result, that and they can't really convince people to pay a constant sub the way WoW does.

Dont feel like thats true. You just need to keep players intrest long enough.

Alot of mmos are just pretty graphics and no substance, with some pvp thrown in. They become a craze for abit then fade into nothing else.

Yet watch FF11 and FF14, still subscription based and people that have had accounts for like 10+ years.
