Former Rovio VP and Other Gaming Vets Form Futureplay Games - News

Former Rovio Vice President Jami Laes has formed a new mobile studio, Futureplay Games, with the help of other industry veterans.

Other co-founders include former VP of Games & Executive Producer at Remedy Entertainment, Kai Auvinen; former senior software consultant at Reaktor, Toumas Huhtanen; former VP of Design at Boomlagoon, Arttu Mäki; and former Executive Producer, Mika Rahko.

"A new era of mobile gaming is upon us and we passionately believe we can create the future of games for new and old players alike. We are set to build the next big delightful and engaging experiences for the new generation of gamers on both phones and tablets.

"Our focus is on creating a new category of 'view-to-play' games – broadly accessible gameplay with a natural integration and rewarding ad-based monetization. We believe in F2P and ads – both done right can be great, you will see. We want to develop fast and have fun launching multiple games per year and not work multiple years per game."

Mobile has peaked imo. From this point on, we're going to see diminishing sales with only a few lucky stand outs (flappy birds etc) making bank. There's only so much you can do when you don't have physical buttons and trying to push the medium forward into some sort of "core" experience without them is impossible.
