D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die launched for the Xbox One on September 18, 2014. The game was developed by Access Games and published by Microsoft Studios.

Thanks GameSpot.

Impressive. Though it is very poor journalism to leave out one very important fact that contributes to this impressive number: D4 was free on Games with Gold in January. That is for sure going to boost the download number.

Most of the downloads came from Games with Gold but I'm glad that many people cared to even download it. That creates more demand for a sequel and it will sell better.

1.3 million for a game that was free for a full month.

How is that a milestone?

Just for the record it should be noted that when this game was released, it was largely ignored by the Xbox user base and sold only 10k copies. The inflated number of 1.3 million is just games with gold downloads. Good for this developer for finally getting his game on PC, hopefully they'll make a decent profit from that platform.

I don't know why you are being downvoted so badly when what you said is actually correct.

When you say a fanbase ignored the game rather than blaming the marketing and the actual game being niche, you're going to expect disagreement and I can see exactly why.

Upvote/Downvote all you want. 10k sold copies is poor. If you want to blame marketing and the game itself, that’s fine. At the end of the day it’s just another excuse. Like I said, PC should open up the proper fanfare for this game.
