The wildly successful crowdfunded game Star Citizen has hit a new milestone. The game has surpassed $80 million and has been financially backed by more than 882,000 people.

Star Citizen originally raised more than $6 million back in 2012 and has steadily building on that total ever since, such that by August 2014 it hit $50 million.

The game client size will end up being around 100GB, while patches could be up to 20GB in size.

OK these $10mil milestones were cool the first few times but now it's getting kinda old. Especially given the game isn't even out yet and already has microtransactions (if you can call the prices micro) running full steam ahead. I really hope this game lived up to the hype or a lot of people will be furious. Could ruin crowd funding for a lot of people. Sure looks pretty though.

The thing between this game and Kickstarter is simply unbelievable. 80 millions. That almost $100 per backer!
