Wii and DS Games To Get Excited About At E3

Wii and DS Games To Get Excited About At E3 - Article

by Alex St-Amour , posted on 03 June 2012 / 5,920 Views

Without a doubt the big Nintendo buzz on the show floor at E3 will be reserved for new 3DS titles and the Wii U’s big re-reveal. But what of the old guard? Both the Wii and Nintendo DS are present in hundreds of millions of homes, so it makes sense for new titles to make their way to those systems.

So before we jet off to LA for the big show, let’s have a look at several Wii and Nintendo DS to get excited about at E3 2012.

Pokémon Conquest

Wii DS 2012 01

Let’s kick this list off with a game that you'll be playing sooner rather than later - Pokémon Conquest. In this mash-up of genres you'll still befriend and add Pokémon to your team but instead of aspirations of being the Pokémon League Champion you'll instead be trying to claim feudal Japan from various warlords. Sound crazy? Well, it is, but this joining of the Pokémon and Nobunaga’s Ambition series has been getting rave reviews overseas. You'll be able to see for yourself what all the hype is about on June 18th.

The Last Story

Wii DS 2012 02

The second title from the ambitious Operation Rainfall fan campaign is finally making its way over to North America courtesy of XSEED Games. The Last Story, from Final Fantasy producer Hironobu Sakaguchi, is an epic RPG that follows a young group of pirates out to save the world (as opposed to the traditional pirate activities of pillaging and parrot training). The game features an all-new dynamic battle system as well as some pretty serious online functionality, not to mention some of the best visuals the Wii has seen. On top of all of that, the game is launching soon (but not soon enough); you can get your hands on The Last Story on July 10th.

Kirby: 20th Anniversary Collection

Wii DS 2012 07

Nintendo is going anniversary crazy these days (well, it’s not their fault all these birthdays are at the same time), but really, why complain? The latest classic Nintendo franchise to reach a major milestone is everyone’s favourite puffball, Kirby. Nintendo has promised us a special anthology disk for the Wii featuring some of Kirby’s most memorable adventures. I just hope that they learned from their mistakes and give us more than a simple port for Kirby’s birthday. Here’s hoping that E3 will be big on the Kirby news and that Nintendo throws a party worthy of his legacy. Happy birthday Kirby!

Pandora’s Tower

Wii DS 2012 04

The only title on the list whose future in North America is cloudy, Pandora’s Tower is currently the subject of a massive push by fans to have the game localized in the colonies. Whether or not we ever get to experience the brutal hack and slash RPG here should be revealed at E3. Hopefully the success of Xenoblade Chronicles and the upcoming release of The Last Story push Nintendo (or another generous publisher) to bring this hotly anticipated title over to the new world.

Pokémon (Black and White) 2

Wii DS 2012 05

The second Nintendo DS title on this list is also the second Pokémon game here. I guess Nintendo knows that the venerable dual-screen has a huge base of Poké-maniacs hungry for more to catch. As the first numbered sequel in the long-running series, Pokémon (Black and White) 2 is looking to up the ante from its predecessor in almost every way. More Pokémen (and Pokéladies), a bigger world to explore, new Pokémon fusions, and new online modes and interaction with new Nintendo 3DS apps all come together to create the ultimate Pokémon experience.

Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power Of Two

Wii DS 2012 06

One of the last major third party games coming to the Wii is also our most anticipated. The original Epic Mickey was a true labour of love, proving that the mascot still had plenty left in the tank. So what to do for a sequel? More worlds based on classic Disney locations? Check. New gameplay hooks? Check. Two playable characters at the same time and two-player co-op? Double check! Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power Of Two is shaping up to be a perfect swan-song for the Wii when it launches this September.
