Need for Speed Most Wanted will be making its way to IOS devices this fall and while the series is no stranger to the mobile market this edition definitely is by far the most comprehensive to-date. During my hands-on demo I raced with a stylish gold Porsche against a field of five other racers while being pursued by the cop through city streets at night. The controls are simple; your car accelerates automatically and you tilt your IOS device left and right to steer. Tapping and holding your finger against the touchscreen activates your car’s brakes, allowing you to turn corners more gracefully. You also have nitrous reserves which you can tap into by sliding your finger up on the touchscreen. In the lower right hand corner is a nitrous meter that automatically fills up with time, so feel free to drive as fast and furious as your heart desires.

The developers really want to stress the graphical improvements this year. Most Wanted features the most convincing lighting as well as damage modeling found in the mobile series yet. Sparks flew whenever the side of my Porsche came into contact with a wall or another vehicle. After crashing repeatedly with the cops and other racers the car’s bumper hung from the end and continued to flutter as I raced until it eventually just flew off. On a particularly tight right turn I managed to sideswipe a cop car so that it went airborne where it flipped repeatedly until it landed in a heap of destruction, all in slow motion.  The lighting effects on display in the demo were also impressive; the lights of the city streets reflected off of my car's paint job in real time.

In typical Most Wanted fashion, you’re notoriety is of chief importance. If you are busted by the police at any time during the race then you automatically lose. The longer you manage to evade them and the more destruction you cause to their vehicles the more Speed Points (SP) you acquire. Speed Points has no currency value within the game but they do act as an overall score for you to compare your stats with your friends. The Most Wanted list in this version is restricted to your friends who also have the game and ranks you competitively amongst them based on your number of Speed Points.

The developers have yet to finalize exactly what race types will make it into the finished product but told me to expect the usual assortment of single races, time attack modes, and the like. Need for Speed Most Wanted will be available for download this fall on IOS devices.
