Nintendo's Next Pokemon Game is Going all Skylanders on your Wallet - NewsVGChartz Staff, posted on 13 March 2013 / 2,701 Views
So, Skylanders (whether you like it or not) is a crazy success, thanks in a large part to the successful merging of toys and videogames. Pokemon (whether you like it or not) is a force of nature that includes videogames, movies, anime, manga, apparel, toys, and dang near anything else you could think of.
So the moment Skylanders proved itself to be money making machine, the question on everybody's lips was, "So when will Nintendo make a Pokemon Skylanders-like game?"
That time is now
In the most recent issue of Japan's CoroCoro magazine, a report announced the next installment of the Pokemon Rumble franchise. Called Pokemon Rumble U, it will be not only the first in the franchise to be on the console but it will also be the first Wii U game to makes use of the built-in NFC technology. As with Skylanders, the game will make use of real world plastic figures that unlock their digital counterpart and have leveling and save data stored in the figure itself.
The game will be arriving in Japan's eShop on April 24th costing ¥1800 (£12.60/$18.80). The figures are priced at ¥200 (£1.40/$2.10) a piece. This is a far deal more affordable than the $10 or more cost of individual Skylanders figures or Disney's Infinity purposed $13 a figure plus $5 per additional power disk (in addition of the full priced retail game). We could have quite the three way Activision/Disney/Nintendo battle if Pokemon Rumble U finds itself localized for Western audiences this holiday season.
Has Nintendo found its "killer app" for the Wii U?
Alright, now let's see who can be the first to name all the Pokemon confirmed between the two images we have so far, in the comments.
