French developer David Cage will be awarded France's highest honor, the Legion of Honour medal, on March 14. Cage will be the first video game developer to join the Legion of Honour. He will receive the award from French associate minister Fleur Pellerin.

Cage will enter the Legion of Honour at the level of Chevalier (Knight), which requires a minimum 20 years of public service or 25 years of professional activity, and "eminent merits", per Wikipedia.

France has given a different award, the Order of Arts and Letters, to other developers (including Ubisoft's Michael Ancel and Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto).

David Cage is well known for his story driven PS3 titles Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls. Both have received critical acclaim, but also plenty of criticism (in particular, many feel Beyond: Two Souls is either one of the greatest games ever made or a scourge upon the industry). Either way, his name has become well known in the industry and he'll soon make history as the first developer to earn the Legion of Honour.
