The PlayStation Vita may not be the most talked about gaming platform out there but it has undoubtedly amassed a strong library of titles over the years, with 2014 bringing with it another batch of excellent games. Spotlighted in the list of games below - admittedly a bit Japanese-centric -  are some of the most unique and enthralling Vita games released this past year. They prove that deep, satisfying gameplay experiences can fit in your pocket and are accessible at the push of a button or, in the Vita’s case, a swipe of the rear touchpad.

The Nominees Are:

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair

Freedom Wars

Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited

Rogue Legacy

And the Winner is…

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair

Say goodbye to your free time and hello to our pick for Best PlayStation Vita Game of 2014. A desert island to explore? Check. Zany murder mysteries? Check. Unique story punctuated by equally unique and addictive mini-games? Check and check. It must be Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, a sequel that improves upon nearly every facet of its endearing predecessor.

Beneath its veneer of humor and eclectic cast of characters is a game of unexpected psychological and emotional depth. Though much of the game focuses on murder trial cases and investigations, you also have the freedom to get to know your peers on the island and, before you know it, you may find yourself emotionally attached to them. Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair also makes good use of the Vita’s various inputs making it feel uniquely at home on Sony’s versatile portable console.
