Report: Hearthstone Tops 75M Players, 'Off the Charts' - News

There are more than 75 million players for Activision Blizzard's Hearthstone, according to an employee who spoke with Yahoo Finance editor Tae Kim. The Hearthstone figures have tripled since the last publicly released data and they "are off the charts."

The next expansion is also slated to be released this April. The expansion will be more focused around PvE and the tream is also experimenting with a 2v2 version of the game.

The employee who remains anonymous also talked about other Blizzard franchises. He stated that the Overwatch business modeil is in flux and the team si deciding for the game to be free-to-play or to be based around expansions. However, players will be able to play at least part of the game for free. How you pay for new heroes is still undecided. The game is expected to game out between December 2015 to early 2016.

The employee added that the next Starcraft 2 game is complete and ready to go. However, Blizzard is figuring out the best time to release the game. Though, a second quarter release is most likely. The Diablo III team has been moved to work on a new project in the Starcraft universe.
