I was worried he might quit after reading about how insanely taxing each Super Smash Brothers installment is on him... He even said he didnt want to establish a series because people begin expecting you to not only produce one every few years but to improve upon the previous version.

At this point he's doing exactly what he said he'd hoped not to do... He definitely needs to take a break before he's completely burnt out.

Anyone watched GameTheory lately? The man does deserve a break, even if it means forever. He's given enough to the industry to warrant him high status forever.

I respect what Mr Sakurai did for the industry. He is one of very few game developers that actually puts all of his soul into the games he creates and the end product usually is amazing. I think it was Iwata's fault for him being in a rush creating Smash Bros because the games were announced before they went into creating it and while Mr Sakurai had help from Namco, 2 years for a quality game like that is just insane.

While I would like to see more games from him, I don't want to play a game by somebody who didn't have fun creating it aspecially if that person is one of my favorite game developers.

Take an extended vacation Sakurai. I’m sure you’ll feel differently after a couple years off.

He definitely needs and deserves a break. IMO, there's a very passionate and dedicated following for Smash Bros, many of which are already making mods for Smash Bros games. Nintendo should tap into that and use these people in the development process for Smash Bros. instead of relying on old talent that's getting burnt out and in house teams who may be out of touch with the Smash fanbase.

When you make the same series for so long it's not a surprise. Best thing for him is a 2 years break, and then make a completely different type of game. Maybe then he'll feel like doing another mario.

Do another Mario? What? Sakurai's never made a Mario game. He actually has been pretty varied in what he makes. He switched between Smash Bros and Kirby, and after he dropped Kirby, he developed Kid Icarus: Uprising. I don't think a break will help him. I feel like he should just stop being involved with Smash, because it takes so much out of him.

Sakurai didn't make Mario; that was Miyamoto (who claims he is looking to retire in a few years because he's getting old but is a bit of a workaholic I hear.)

Sakurai is a forty-something year old who invented Kirby, invented and still makes Smash Bros, and made the most recent Kid Icarus. He's known to work himself to levels that even others at Nintendo raise an eyebrow to (and they're collective kinda worrying when it comes to extent of their work ethic) and has been making games since he was, I believe, seventeen.

He's earned the right to 'rest his weary head' but he is still sooo young. I have heard that he is suffering stress related illnesses though.
