Sony Not Worried About Xbox One Price Cut, Suggests Gap is 2 to 1 - News

Microsoft cut the price of the Xbox One by $50 in the US, undercutting the PlayStation 4 price. Xbox Corporate Vice President of Marketing Yusuf Mehdi announced last week that the price cut has more than tripled in the US and was the top selling console for the first two weeks in November.

Despite the boost in Xbox One sales in the US, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America Shawn Layden has stated he is not worried in an interview with GamesBeat. When asked if the PlayStation 4 has outsold the Xbox One by two to one, he said "the math seems to look like that."

"No, not at all," answered Layden when asked if he felt the pressure of the Xbox One price cut. "It’s going to be a very competitive holiday season. Everyone’s going to move their numbers the best way they can. We’re going to be fully engaged in that battle."

"Benefit and value, I think, is what the customer will look for this holiday season," he added. "What kind of benefit does the platform bring to me? What added value? Those types of things. We were talking a couple of days ago when we made the announcements about the PlayStation View. That’s another way we’re showing the value of the platform. We’re still unveiling PSNow, but that should be coming to larger-scale rollout soon. That’s another way we show benefit and value to the platform."

If Sony is handily winning the global race, and it is, then there is absolutely no reason or pressure to drop the price. The US race is not really that important. PS4 doesn't need to outsell Xb one every month or even for the holidays in the USA. Momentum does not quantum shift in the space of 2 months. What may happen is expectation of price cut builds up through 2015 so some people delay buying PS4 until there is a price cut. The market expects a price cut in year 2, and Sony will almost certainly deliver on that. If they only plan a $50 cut it might come at E3, if they plan a larger cut it will come later around Sept or Oct.

Ps4 wont drop in price because sony will feel it will compete very well in terms of sales. Only in the US I think xbone will outsell ps4 slightly but if PS4 had a price cut aswell, PS4 should dominate. All other electronic products reduce in price a year later why cant PS4? Xbone sales spike could be due to cod being released also. Ms needed to reduce its price as the price point is the only way xbone can compete because the games aren't doing it for them. Xbone has had 3 price drops in the UK

2 to 1? Not in the US it isn't. Come on Sony, you finally got a small lead in the US. If you want domination, now is the time to push. Saying you're pushing value with PSNow is like Nintendo saying it has the bigger library. Both add value, but what customers respond to is value that is immediately visible on store shelves, like the bundles Microsoft and Nintendo are offering.

Sony sees the USA as its secondary market EU is its primary, this is visible with the bundles and other deals they offer in EU

Yeah, this holiday is going to be beneficial to everyone. NIntendo has Pokemon and Smash Bros., Sony and Microsoft have a feud going on. It'll be very interesting. I actually think the Xbone will outsell PS4 this holiday.

Maybe in the US and if it does, it would by a small margin. The Xbox one will be crushed by the PS4 in Europe (as usual), so worldwide the Xbox one doesn't stand a chance.

If Sony is winning the global race two to one, according to certain members the PS4 has sold at least 15mil units and as many as 17mil! :P

I frankly think that should put a damper on people's "Xbox One is super undertracked" threads. We know PS4 was 13.5mil shipped in September so unless they shipped a ridiculous amount in October (three million in one month), there's no way that the comparison can work out with Xbox One at 7.5mil or some nonsense. Assuming this statement is accurate, it basically confirms that Xbone tracking isn't very far off here, being at or below (I would be bellow) 7mil more than likely.

sony is near bankrupt, cutting the price is to much for them to handle
