Sony Computer Entertainment of America President and CEO Shawn Layden is celebrating the one year anniversary of the PlayStation 4 with the release of an infographic in a blog post. This is also less than a month away from the 20th anniversary of the original PlayStation.

"It’s hard to believe that 12 short months ago, the PlayStation Nation finally got their hands on the most powerful and socially connected gaming platform ever created," read the blog post. "With blockbuster games from our Worldwide Studios like inFAMOUS Second Son, MLB 14 The Show, Killzone Shadow Fall, The Last of Us Remastered and new innovative features like Share Play and SHAREfactory, PS4 has had an unprecedented first year!"

Sony: PlayStation 4 Shipments Hit 13.5M Units, 1 Billion Hours Spent Online

The infographic shows that Sony has shipped 13.5 million units worldwide since its release. There has also been more than 100 billion hours spent playing the PlayStation 4 online,as well as 530 million presses on the Share Button.

There are now 7.9 million PlayStation Plus subscribers, which is up 270 percent since the release of the PlayStation 4. There has been 56 million unique active users on the PlayStation Network and September, 2014 was the biggest month ever for the PSN.

In the first year for the PlayStation 4, hardware sales generated more revenue in its first year than any other gaming platform.

A bit of a typo, it's 1 billion hours on the PS4 not 100 billion.

Let me get this straight. PS4 has shipped 13.5 as of sept 30 and vgchartz says 13M sold. Xbox One has shipped 10M units and VGChartz say 6.7.... 500k on shelves ps4, 3,000,000 Xbox ones on shevles. Seems legit William..

MS said 10 million "shortly." We dont know what that means. With that said IOI said its not abnormal to have 2 million in the system(on a boat or shelf) for holidays so I would say either X1 is undertracked or PS4 overtracked.

Most powerful gaming platform? PC says hi.

It's been a long time for the 13.5 shipped.

Pretty pathetic plus numbers. If it's a 270% increase, that means there were only about 2.1 million plus users on the PS3 with 80 million ps3's sold and they only increased 5.8 million users for the ps4 after making online a plus requirement

16-17 million units by year's end!!!

Now SONY claims to have shipped 13.5 million PS4s as of October 31st.
That would mean VGChartz are seriosly overtracking... by as much as 15%.

It's for September 30th. 13.5 was the last reported. It's in their last financial report. They seemed to just not bother to update us with this little... I don't know what to call. An e-flyer?

As already noted, this is for the 30th of September, when VGC had the PS4 numbers much lower. This is also well in advance of the upswing in holiday shipments (which explain MS's recent jump to 9m+ shipments).

All-in-all, VGC's numbers appear rather accurate.

13.5 million shipped, I guess that puts an end to some of the silly statements on VgChartz claiming PS4 is massive undertracked

Those are numbers from end of September. This is a non-news article honestly; I made the same mistake.

As of September 30th. So yeah, still possibly undertracked.

Are you talking in reference to the shipped number? Because 13.5m was what they'd shipped as of September 30th (the end of their last Q). VGC had the PS4 at 11.4 around then.

Its not overtracked. This is through september.

Oh...why is it the title of the article and no clarification for the date provided in the article? Since the 13.5 million is not at all the "news" here?

Nevermind then, my first comment is not correct
