Overall, hardware sale this week increased by 60 percent. Week-on-week sales are up across the board, except for the PlayStation Vita. Overall year-on-year sales are up by 59 percent. The Wii U is year-on-year.
Two games debuted in the top 30 this week: Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (PS4) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 3.05 million units. The Xbox One version debuted at number two with sales of 2.06 million units. The Xbox 360 version debuted at number three with sales of 1.22 million units. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number four with sales of 1.09 million units. The PC version debuted at number nine with sales of 94,480 units.
Software milestones this week in the top 30: The Sims 4 (PC) passed the one million mark.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week-on-week is up across the board. PlayStation 4 sales are up by 173,405 (66%) to 334,849 units sold. Xbox One sales are up by 245,743 (145%) to 415,435 units sold. The Wii U sold 73,265 units, an increase of 14,617 (25%). PS3 sales are up by 14,223 (26%) to 69,639 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are up by 24,980 (59%) to 67,384 units sold. The Wii sold 14,689 units, an increase of 2,874 (24%).
Handheld sales week-on-week is up for the 3DS and down for the Vita. The 3DS sold 218,197 units, which is an increase of 18,167 (9%). The PlayStation Vita sold 27,551 units, which is down 598 (-2%) compared to last week. Week on week sales is up by 493,411 (60%) to 1.32 million units.
The Wii U is up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 90,998 (-57%), the Wii is down 16,601 (-53%), the Xbox 360 is down 56,335 (-46%), and the Wii U is up 13,830 (23%). The Vita is down 33,568 (-55%) and the 3DS is down 134,581 (-38%). Year on year sales is up by 491,459 units (59%).
Home console hardware sales have increased for the Wii U, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii for four weeks and three weeks for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The PlayStation 3 has a 46 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 44 percent market share; and the Wii has a 10 percent market share. The PlayStation 4 has a 47 percent market share for the eighth generation, the Xbox One has a 45 percent market share and the Wii U has an eight percent market share.
Handheld hardware sales increased for the 3DS for one week and decreased for the Vita for one week. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has increased this week to 191,000 units, from 172,000 units last week.
The 3DS has an 89 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has an 11 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks the 3DS is up and the Vita is down.
Worldwide Software

Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Super Smash Bros. 3DS (3DS) is at number five with sales of 131,074. FIFA 15 (PS4) is at number six with sales of 130,253. FIFA 15 (PS3) is at number seven with sales of 112,355. Sunset Overdrive (XOne) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 91,647.
Software home console sales week-on-week is up across the board. The PlayStation 4 sold 4.05 million games, an increase of 2.9 million units (251%). The PlayStation 3 sold 2.90 million games this week, an increase of 1.08 million units (59%). Xbox One software sales are up 1.97 million units (290%) to 2.65 million games sold. The Xbox 360 sold 2.57 million games, an increase of 1.21 million units (88%). The Wii sold 574,128 games, an increase of 61,105 (12%). The Wii U sold 306,233 games, an increase of 9,538 (3%).
Handheld software sales week-on-week is up for the DS, PSP and 3DS. The 3DS sold 743,188 games, which is up 14,950 units (2%). The DS sold 372,553 games, an increase of 45,585 units (14%) week-on-week. Vita game sales are down 35,696 units (-14%) to 219,236 games sold. The PSP sold 103,989 games, an increase of 1,695 (2%). Total combined software is up 7.25 million units (100%) week-on-week to 14.49 million.
Year-on-year software totals are down across the board. The PlayStation 3 is down 3.66 million units (-56%), the Wii is down 377,182 units (-40%), the Xbox 360 is down 3.66 million units (-40%), and the Wii U is down 27,311 units (-8%). The DS is down 246,723 units (-40%), the PSP is down 129,190 units (-55%), the 3DS is down 213,496 units (-22%), and the Vita is down 19,955 units (-8%). Total combined software is down 1.63 million units (-10%) games sold year-on-year.
Home console software sales have increased for the Wii for five weeks, four weeks for the PS3, two weeks for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, and one week for the PS4 and Wii U.
The PlayStation 3 has a 48 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 43 percent market share; and the Wii has a nine percent market share. The PlayStation 4 has a 58 percent market share for the eighth generation, the Xbox One has a 38 percent market share, and the Wii U has and four percent market share.
Handheld software sales have increased for two weeks for the PSP and DS and decreased for five weeks, and one week for the 3DS. The Vita has decreased for one week. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS has sold more than three times as many games as the Vita. The DS sold nearly four times as many games as the PSP.
The DS has a 78 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 22 percent market share. The 3DS has a 77 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 23 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are up.
