Dying Light Cancelled for the Xbox 360 and PS3, Hardware Can't Handle the Game - News

Developer Techland has cancelled the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of its zombie game Dying Light. The studio has stated the last generation consoles could not handle all the physics-based lighting and the high number of objects on screen.

"As you probably know, we’re wrapping up the development of Dying Light, our biggest and most ambitious project to date," the developer said on Facebook. "We spent the last three years making sure that all the features of our game add up to create a truly next-gen experience."

"Much of this “next-gen feel” is tightly connected to the technological side of Dying Light. For instance, up to 200,000 objects can be displayed in the game at once. Add to this our use of realistic, physics-based lighting technology and you really start to push the next-gen systems to the limits."

"Therefore, after thorough internal testing, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to leave past-gen systems behind and release Dying Light exclusively on the next-gen consoles and PC. Put simply, older consoles just couldn’t run the game and stay true to the core vision of Dying Light at the same time."

"To ensure you enjoy Dying Light as much as we would like you to, we chose to release it without any compromises on the three strongest systems available. Thanks to this, you’ll get the full and best experience regardless of the platform you play on."

Dying Light will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on Janaury 27 in North America and January 30 in Europe and Japan.

with the PC's minimum requirements being lower than what the PS3 and 360 is capable of their excuse looks very poor!

You are telling me the game can run on 512MB of Ram (which on the PS3 isn't even unified) on the PC. Yeah, try to run that shit on a PC with that ammount of RAM.

512mb vram, either way consoles and PC's work completely differently, didn't you know!

GOOD. Stop releasing new games for last gen systems. As if the 8th Gen consoles weren't holding development enough, we still have to deal with games being downgraded up the ass to run in almost 8yo hardware. The time has come to move on.

and like wise next gen consoles are holding back gaming PC's, do you really think every developer will just stop producing games for a market which is still very popular, just because you bought a next gen console does not give you the right to tell developers to "move on"!

ps the 360 is nearly 9 years old and the hardware inside it is over 10 years old, time to get educated!

Smart move. It's time everyone abandons that 10 year old hardware.

Their customer base just shrunk. I do hope it does well for them, but gutting the last gen consoles is risky, especially since it is a zombie game where a lot of people might approach it as "been there done that".

except that one of the systems had they looked at the steam survey would tell them most people on steam have basic low spec PC's that compare to last gen consoles, looking at the minimum requirement shows an AMD 7470 graphics card and a dual core CPU, here is the link to the PC spec required http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=7982&game=Dying%20Light, the dual core CPU's from 2008 FFS!
