Capcom Revenue Down 51%, Profits Drop 40%, Lack of New Releases - News

Capcom has continued to struggle due to the lack of new releases. During the six month period which ended on September 30, 2014, revenue dropped 51 percent year-over-year to ¥25.9 billion ($239.5 million. Profits dropped 40 percent to ¥2.9 billion ($26.8 million).

Capcom's Digital Contents division, saw the biggest drop. This division covers console, PC and mobile games. Revenue dropped a massive 64 percent to ¥13.5 billion ($124.9 million). Profits dropped 60 percent to ¥2.2 billion ($20.4 million).

Capcom states the huge drop in both revenue and profits were due to not releasing a single game. However, sales are already looking better during the third quarter due to the release of Monster Hunter 4G for the 3DS in Japan. The game sold more than 1.5 million units in its first week alone.

Capcom keeps trying to scramble to follow the latest market trends instead of listening to the fans that the company was built on. This failure is well deserved.

I really wonder how much longer Capcom will survive. Their knee jerk reactions to everything has been laughable. They went from saying they needed to make more smaller titles, to saying they needed to make less larger titles, to saying they're not going to be making any titles at all. Like seriously, fire every exec in the company.

Capcom is much bigger than just a video game company as are most of the big Japanese publisher's.

It's not so much that they will die as it is they stop making console/pc games.

They're still more profitable than EA, which barely managed to eke out a profit even in a good quarter.

SHITCOM will probably blame the fans or something like that.

So in the news, next to each other, EA's profits keep climbing and Capcom keeps falling. Cruel world...

I hope they're going to get back into businnes thanks to games like Megaman or Resident Evil Revelations 2.

Kind of not shocking that mobile and PC take a hit. I don't think many of capcom's games (At least that I know) really fit on either platform, other than residence evil.

God bless everyone.

At least they did not lose money. This is the year companies seem the most afraid to release new games. Next year though looks to change that across all platforms. Hopefully our wallets will survive next year.
