Nintendo has released its quarterly report for its second fiscal quarter, as well as sales for the six month period that ended September 30, 2014. Revenue for the six month period increased 12.8 percent year-over-year to ¥171.4 billion ($1.6 billion), while profits jumped to ¥14.2 billion ($131.3 million), from ¥0.6 billion ($55.5 million) a year ago.

The Wii U has been "gathering momentum" as shipments for the console more than doubled year-over-year to 1.12 million units, from 460,000. Wii U software sales grew by almost 50 percent to 94 million units, from 6.3 million units. Lifetime shipments for the Wii U are now at 7.29 million units.

While Wii U sales have been on the rise, 3DS sales have declined. Shipments for the 3DS were 2.09 million units, which is down from 3.89 million units. 3DS software sales for the six month perioud are at 23.3 million units. Lifetime 3DS shipments are now at 45.42 million units.

Super Smash Bros. 3DS was Nintendo's top selling game with 3.2 million units sold, while Tomodachi Life sold 1.27 million units. Nintendo expects Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will help boost 3DS sales when it launches.

Nintendo expects revenue for the full fiscal year to reach ¥590 billion ($5.5 billion) and profits to hit ¥169 billion ($1.6 billion).

Man, those Amiibos are going to be a major money maker. Look at how well those Skylanders sell.

The sooner they release the "new" 3DS in NA and EU, the sooner they'll see sales pick up. I understand why they're holding it back for these regions, as they want to push the WiiU but it's not entirely impossible to push both systems. If they would have bundled the new 3DS with the new Pokemon games or the new Smash Bros, that would have made them massive amounts of money.

Quote the WII U IS DOOMED articles and comments.. people can get so worked up with a semi-dormant system for a year after its launch. We haven't only been getting awesome games for the Wii U, but we're promised a huge year in 2015.

Is finally people realizing that the 3ds is a suckers deal? After all those stupid versions 3ds 2ds 1ds 4ds,wait a minute...who were buying all of those fads all this time?

The name of the article is missleading... Microsoft has also been using the term "shipments". The only reason why companies use that terms, is because sales are not doing as well, so they use the "shipment" term because that usually reflects higher numbers.
In any case... I have a 3DS and a Wii U, and love the games I play on those.
But if there's something I want to see, is Iwata OUT of the picture.

3DS needs a price drop!!. It's too expensive.. a 3DS XL for 200€$? for 100 bucks more you can pick a WiiU with a game. it's ridiculous!!

"gathering momentum" What's that supposed to mean? Sales have been going up every month? Or am i just over-analyzing it?
