Analyst: Call of Duty Losing Popularity, Advanced Warfare Pre-orders Down Compared to Ghosts - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 27 October 2014 / 7,638 ViewsThe Call of Duty franchise has lost some of its popularity after several years of being one of the biggest releases during the holidays. The franchise has nearly 200 million units worldwide at retail.
Research firm Cowen and Company has stated the decline in sales for the franchise will continue again this year with the release of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. They expect sales to drop 40 percent when compared to last year's Call of Duty: Ghosts and a massive 70 percent drop compared to 2012's Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
"We continue to believe [Call of Duty] will be down meaningfully vs. last year. With the franchise facing two consecutive significant year on year declines in sales, we think it is prudent to assume it has peaked."
Despite the huge drop in sales the research firm believes Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will more than likely outsell Destiny. They expect Destiny to sell around 12 to 13 million units in its first 12 months and possibly top 15 million units if it has strong legs.

When you milk the cow every year, dont be surprised when it runs dry. I predict the same thing for Assassins creed. These yearly rehashes are not helping anyone. Its best if we get more variety.
Exept it's Mario. Only Nintendo can rehash games good.
The difference between Mario and those games is that COD games and AC games has been almost the same thing every year and Mario has different things to offer almost in all games (For me).

Good, I hate COD so much.
40% drop from ghosts suggests about 15 million lifetime. So it might no beat destiny if 15 million for that game is achieved.
This shit of franchise have ruined one entire generation. I hope this game disapear forever of video market.
Activision milked Guitar Hero to death didn't they?
So, when is it gonna drop low enough that we won't have to see another god damn call of duty game?
They made a mistake with taking cash from microsoft for the exclusive bundles/ads. They would sale way more with XO and PS4 bundles.
Nah, they would not as people want next gen gaming, and CoD is very much stuck with releasing the same game every 12-18 months.
I"d say the Xbox brand being attached to COD is a bad thing this gen. PS4 is the market leader and whatever game they side with will sell really well. Just look at Watch Dogs and Destiny.
Finally, the light at the end of tunnel appears.
