Microsoft has released its earnings for its first fiscal quarter, which ended on September 30, 2014. Revenue increased 25 percent to $23.2 billion. However, profits did drop to $5.8 billion from $6.3 billion during the same quarter a year ago.

"We are innovating faster, engaging more deeply across the industry, and putting our customers at the center of everything we do, all of which positions Microsoft for future growth,"  said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. "Our teams are delivering on our core focus of reinventing productivity and creating platforms that empower every individual and organization."

The Device and Consumer division, which is what the Xbox is under, saw revenue jump 47 percent to $10.96 billion. This was partly due to the release of the Surface Pro 3. The Surface brand brought in revenue of $908 million.

Looking at the Xbox, Microsoft shipped 2.4 million Xbox consoles. That is for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 combined. That is a huge 102 percent increase compared to the previous quarter. The Xbox One did launch in 28 new countries.
