Analyst: Call of Duty Sales Expected to Continue to Decline - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 30 September 2014 / 5,244 Views

Call of Duty sales have been on the decline on the last couple of years. The franchise peaked with the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 which has sold 29.84 million units lifetime. The following years release, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, has sold 27.27 million units to date, while last years title, Call of Duty: Ghosts, has sold 22.66 million units.

Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia has predicted the franchise will continue to decline with this years Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. The game is expected to ship around 17 million units this holiday. This is a 15 percent drop when compared to last year's Ghosts.

Bhatia gave a few reasons for the drop in sales, according to a statement released to Cinema Blend. The lower than expected pre-orders could be due to gamers disappointment by Ghosts. Also, software sales for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are down significantly this year and sales for the PS4 and Xbox One have not made up for the difference yet.

Despite the drop in sales for the Call of Duty franchise, Activision's outlook looks good in the long run. They have many other hit titles, such as Destiny, Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm.

"Our point is that Activision, which was primarily known for Call of Duty and World of Warcraft in the past, now has a much stronger and diversified portfolio and has a presence on more platforms (iOS and Android) than ever before," said Bhatia.

The game will continue to see, but not at what used to be. It's all Activision's fault for the yearly milking. Just like what happen with Tony hawk and guitar hero.

Or it could just be that the general public are fast becoming bored with the same old regurgitated rubbish that they keep putting out no? Now we are in a new generation perhaps they should go back to WW2 instead of trying to rip off titanfall.
