PlayStation 4 Sales Remains Ahead of Xbox One and Wii U in the US in August - News

The PlayStation 4 remained ahead of the Xbox One in the US in August for the eighth straight month. This is despite the Xbox One exclusive Madden NFL 15 bundle. Madden NFL 15 ended up selling more for the PlayStation 4 for the month.

"PlayStation 4 was number one in hardware sales for the eighth consecutive month and remains the cumulative leader for next generation game consoles," said Sony’s American senior marketing VP Guy Longworth. "For the third consecutive month, PlayStation [4 and PlayStation 3] was number one in combined home console hardware sales."

Retail sales year-over-year for hardware, software, and accessories increased by eight percent. Also when you align the PS4 and the Xbox One with the PS3 and Xbox 360 sales are currently more than 70 percent ahead after 10 months for the PS4 and Xbox One.

"Overall new physical retail sales (hardware, software, and accessories) increased by 8 [percent] in August 2014 over August 2013 and followed a similar pattern of prior months with explosive hardware growth driven by eighth generation consoles offsetting declines in software," said The NPD Group's Liam Callahan.

"New launches in August 2014 declined 41 per cent compared to new launch performance in August 2013 due to poor comparisons to August 2013 launches like Saints Row IV, Disney Infinity, and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist. Eight out of the top ten games in August were new launches compared to only 3 in August 2014," added Callahan.

"Deep declines in seventh generation software of 57 per cent were not offset by growth in eighth generation software, leading to a net decrease of console software sales of $47 million."

None of it's beaten the PS4. My next guess is that MS will include a voucher for a free PS4 if consumers buy an XBOX One.

When you align XB1/360 and PS4/PS3 sales, XB1 is falling behind the 360 and should be overtaken soon. Meanwhile PS4 is crushing PS3.

I do not care if PS4 is the leader in hardware sales in US. I still believe WiiU is better and I enjoy it more than my PS4.

Sucks that WiiU isn't outselling the XB1 anymore after this update. Just going to have to wait for the Mario Kart 8 WiiU bundle to boost sales.

MS desperation is so bad that in my country (Portugal) MS is offering 100 euros discount if you bring a old Xb360 or a PS3. This is realy happening...

Did anyone expect otherwise? September will be lop sided again with Destiny. Holidays will be exciting. I bet PS4 wins again even in the US.

November sales will be the most interesting. Walmart typically favors Xbox brand as far as Black Friday sales go. Like I can see PS4 staying at $399 + maybe $50 Walmart gift card, or free game. But I bet they will flat-out drop Xbox One to $349 + free game too, or something like that.

MS should be working on a Xbone "Plus" with closer or even better specs than PS4, because like this soon we will see a 3 to 1 ps4 - Xbox sales
