The Xbox One launched last week in Japan on Thursday September 4. In its opening weekend, first four days, the console managed to sell 23,562 units, according to Famitsu. Microsoft shipped just 40,000 units in Japan for the launch of the console.

This is much lower than PlayStation 4 and Wii U, which saw sales of 322,083 and 308,570, respectively. Also to compare the Xbox 360 sold 62,135 units in its debut and the original Xbox 123,929 units.

The top selling game for the Xbox One was Titanfall with sales of 22,416 units. Kinect Sports Rivals sold 14,919 units and Dead Rising 3 sold 7,330 units.

There were high expectation for the XB1 in Japan? By who? I'l bet it sells better in China, then it did in Japan. We'll compare sales after it launches there.

Some had high expectations for PS4 in Japan and it bombed hard there after the good launch.

120k for the first Xbox launch 60k for the X360 and now 20k for the X1.
If you continued that trend their next system would sell 5k on launch week heh. Could turn around tho if they start to pump out a few Japanese friendly games, launches biggest games here being a Kinect game (nice for tiny JP houses) and an FPS (admittedly with mechs) it wasn't too bad a result for MS.

I think the Atari Jaguar or the 3DO sold a lot less in Japan then that.

Not surprised in the slightest Japan has never had a large consumer base for Xbox.

At least Japanese gamers seem to notice the drop in quality from console to console and buy accordingly. Too bad they are not playing Sony the same way...

So XB1 selling less then PS4 because of where it's available.....is not a reason why XB1 is bombing.

Maybe if it came with a good catalogue of Japanese games, or there was hope for more on the horizon? Wonder why the WiiU is beating both

So Xbone flopped in Japan right with the launch. PS4 flopped after a good launch. So Wii U is the most successful console there, even with low sales.
