Destiny the Fragrance Pokes Fun at Sony Advertising Exclusive Deal - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 05 September 2014 / 7,117 Views

Microsoft UK has created a fake advertisement for a perfume called "Destiny the Fragrance." Sony has an exclusive deal with Bungie that all advertising will promote Destiny for the PlayStation consoles, as well as DLC.

"Destiny is actually an epic new first-person shooter, available on Xbox," reads the website. "Thing is, we didn’t have permission to run adverts for the game. So we didn’t."

"Thanks for smelling that something was up. Now get the game and become a legend."

The website also provides links to online retailers who are offering bundled deals for the Xbox One and Destiny.

Microsoft is doing the same with Call of Duty and Fifa and Madden etc. So they shouldn't complain about the Destiny Playstation deal. A bit hypocrite of them to be honest.

Is the perfume made of the salty tears from MS employees? Come on, MS, you started this practise last gen, so don't whine when others do it, too.

But what about all of Microsoft's exclusive deals? Doesn't Sony deserve the same respect?

That was smart for Sony, casuals shooter fans will be less persuaded to buy an XB1 now, which is good.

While some people think it's whining; I see it differently. Instead of sitting their and doing nothing, they're poking fun and making the Sony-exclusive advertising scheme sound less effective and significant. It's marketing and tactics.

Nothing wrong with that: some good old fashioned fun teasing at the competition =D

You should update to say the ad's been taken down, and you should probably remove any trademark infringing quotes at the same time.

It isn't trademark infringing on the part of VGChartz if its being reported as news... They don't have a deal with Bungie or Sony

Ad has been taken down. MS lawyers probably got wind of what the UK marketing department did and said "Hey guys, you know this ad actually breeches the Destiny trademark because you said Destiny as a FPS game? Probably best to take it down."
That's why I hate marketing departments (not just MS but pretty much every company), they have a bright idea and run with it without thinking things through, and making all the legal bits and pieces have been checked out. Idiots! (not MS, just the UK MS marketing department).
