Nintendo: Mario Kart 8 Tops 1 Million Sold in US - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 15 August 2014 / 4,247 ViewsNintendo has announced that Mario Kart 8 has sold one million units in the US at the end of July. This is just the second Wii U title to reach this milestone. The other game is New Super Mario Bros. U which has sold 1.69 million units.
Mario Kart 8 has also pushed sales for Wii U in 2014 by 60 percent in the first seven, when compared to the first seven months in 2013. Software sales has also jumped 135 percent.
Nintendo also stated that there has been more than 40 million games sold for the 3DS in the US. Mario Kart 7 and Pokemon X/Y are the two bestselling games for the 3DS, with 3.48 million and 4.1 million units sold respectively.
Looking at the rest of the year Nintendo has said that Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker will help keep up the momentum the Wii U has seen since the release of Mario Kart 8. Also Nintendo expects amiibo to be popular among Wii U owners with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U as the first title to support it.'
