Ubisoft has released its sales figures for its first fiscal quarter, which ended June 30, 2014. Sales for the quarter jumped 374 percent from €76 million a year ago to €360 million. The huge jump in sales was due to the release of new IP Watch Dogs.

Ubisoft has announced that shipments for Watch Dogs have hit eight million units. This is up from the four million units that were sold in its first week.

"The success of Watch Dogs and the quality of our games portfolio presented at this year’s E3 highlight our strategic positioning as well as our continuous drive for innovation, and affirm our long-term approach," said CEO Yves Guillemot. "Watch Dogs is now well positioned as a major franchise and we will be able to replicate and build on its success in the coming years. Its sales performance testifies to Ubisoft’s expertise as a creator of blockbuster brands."

When you break sales down by platform, the PlayStation 4 more than doubled the nexy closest platforms with 36 percent of sales. The Xbox One and PlayStation 3 each accounted for 17 percent of sales. The Xbox 360 and PC each accounted for 14 percent of sales.

I'm not sure whether they are talking about Watch Dogs' sequels or bold new IPs built as Watch Dogs was.

Being 1 of the 5 platforms, PC accounts for 14% of sales. Not bad.

Good for Ubisoft. I'm sure they've been pretty nervous about Splinter Cell flopping, AC veering off, Rayman Legends selling poorly, and the Just Dance craze slowly eroding away. Not sure if a sequel to WD would sell as well this one, but I think it's nice foothold for their future.

Another case of undeserved sales just because "hardcore gamers" couldn't wait to spend their money on hype rather than quality.

Watch_Dogs is a good game, not one masterpiece, but the shoveling of shit is unjustified ...

Watch Dogs is good, it could be the next Assassin's Creed. What else would gamers wait for Destiny?
