GameStop: $399 Xbox One Flying Off the Shelves - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 12 June 2014 / 24,376 Views

The $399 Xbox One without a Kinect went on sale on Monday. The console has been flying off shelves at GameStop according to Bob Puzon, the senior vice president of merchandising.

"They went on sale in GameStop yesterday; these things started to fly off the shelves," Puzon told GameSpot at E3. "It's a huge win and a huge opportunity for us."

While the $399 Xbox One has been selling really well, Puzon added that sales of the $499 Xbox One with Kinect have been "very vibrant" at GameStop.

The Xbox One has been on sale since last November and has sold 4.5 million units to date, according to VGChartz. Microsoft also announced that three million Xbox One's were sold in 2013 and shipments reached five million in April.

Amazon Best Sellers: #8 white PS4 Destiny bundle, #9 PS4. Xbox without Kinect is sitting at #42 and Titanfall bundle at #52. The PS4 has been in the top 10 on Amazon since launch, and the Bone has consistently been in the 40's and 50's. I know Amazon =/= GameStop, but I doubt GameStop's sales history is that much different.

Amazon can have a game be in the top 3 all month and then it DOESNT even appear in NPD top 10 games for that month.. Amazon is NEVER a good representation of monthly sales..

I see your point, but the numbers certainly indicate that the vast majority of people buying a game console on Amazon are choosing PS4 over XB1 by a factor of almost 6:1. All I'm saying is that I can't imagine consumer spending habits on Amazon are vastly different than other retail outlets.

They better stop them then or there will be none left for the customers.

I eagerly await this week's numbers as well as the following month's trends.

Of course they will be, for a few days, but after they'll ran out of 2nd stage fans, ps4 will be back at the top, we need $50 difference(as a basis only) between them for x1 to stay on top.

Yup there sure were "flying off the shelves" Averages about less then 2 xbox ones per store sold. Half were probably not even the $399. Was this talking about a dream that this Gamestop VP had or maybe he meant STAYING on the shelves.

I think they need to call the "Ghostbusters" if these xboxs are flying off the shelves!! Cause it's defiantly not customers!

its not just about the kinect, even though forcing the kinect was just one idea of a horrible vision of an 8th generation gaming system.. It has a lot to do with the fact they lost touch with gamers... Gamers don't want a $500 cable box they can wave and talk to... Sony seen that and capture the hearts of gamers by No always online and we SUPPORT you having, loaning and trading your games, And design a system with playing games in mind. Gamers want to play games, being able to watch netflix, etc. is nothing more then a feature that most phones, tablets,pc's,TV's can already do, and should have never be the main focus of a gaming machine....

6/13/14, 8am update: PS4 Destiny bundle #8 on Amazon best seller list, PS4 #10
Kinect-less Xbox at #45 and XB Titanfall bundle at #56

The sales trend is pretty consistent at least on Amazon US site.

It's a big price cut, so it has a relevant initial impact. Let's see if weekly sales baseline will increase or if it is just a spark.

Well, actually Kinect is not bundled anymore, so technically it isn't 'price cut'.

Hmm flying off shelves does not mean sold out. Which is kind of what I was expecting; at least at first. This should at least put Xbone above PS4 in the US... for a while at least.

If current Xb one sales = "vibrant" then flying off shelves is perhaps not quite what I thought it would be. Still I wouldn't be surprised by 100K for Kintectless in USA on the first week of release of that sku. It would show what a major drag on Xb one Kinect has been. Imagine if it started at $399.

Yeah right thats why its 43 on amazon and ps4 is number 9 in best sellers.

Though I am not really taking their word, I do have to point out that Gamestop is not Amazon. Stats you see on Amazon in no way affect the sales at Gamestop. So thinking that way is a little silly.

Of course PS4 will be on top of the Amazon charts, people still have trouble finding PS4's locally so they order online. For X1, you can literally walk into any Best Buy, Gamestop, Walmart, etc. and find one.

Gamestop is backing Microsoft's Xbox One since Sony announced their upcoming PlayStation Now game streaming service. If it works it will cut into Gamestop's marketing shares.

XBOX One is now, at last, relevant.
