Weekly Sales Analysis, 12 April - Titanfall (X360), Kinect Sports Rivals

Overview

Overall, hardware sale this week decreased by nine percent. Week-on-week sales is only up for the Xbox One. Overall year-on-year sales are down by 25 percent. The PlayStation Vita is the only platform up year-on-year.

Four games debuted in the top 30 this week.  Titanfall (X360) debuted at number one with sales of 398,404. The game launched worldwide.

There are no software milestones this week in the top 30.

Worldwide Hardware

 

Hardware home console sales week-on-week is up for the Xbox One. PlayStation 4 sales are down 29,510 (-17%) to 140,250 units sold. Xbox One sales are up 10,227 (13%) to 88,297 units sold. PlayStation 3 sales are down 7,816 (-18%) to 49,903 units sold. The Xbox 360 sold 32,211 units, a decrease of 3,263 (-9%). Wii U sales are down 4,302 (-13%) to 29,520 units sold. The Wii sold 10,108 units, a decrease of 786 (-7%).

Handheld sales week-on-week is down for the PSP, 3DS and Vita. The 3DS sold 102,439 units, which is down 8,562 (-8%) week-on-week. The PlayStation Vita sold 42,691 units which is down 3,899 (-8%) compared to last week. The PSP is down 1,298 (-10%) to 11,717 units sold. Total week on week sales are down 49,209 units (-9%) to 507,136 units sold.

The Vita is up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 89,506 (-64%), the Wii is down 22,435 (-69%), the Xbox 360 is down 59,015 (-65%), and the Wii U is down 3,970 (-12%). The PSP is down 46,268 (-80%), the Vita is up 8,570 (25%) and the 3DS is down 39,873 (-28%). Year on year sales are down 42,786 units (-8%).

 

Home console hardware sales have increased for the Xbox One for two week. The Xbox 360 has decreased for one week, the PlayStation 3, Wii, and Wii U for two weeks, and three weeks for the PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 3 has a 54 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 35 percent market share; and the Wii has a 11 percent market share. The PlayStation 4 has a 54 percent market share for the eighth generation, the Xbox One has a 34 percent market share and the Wii U has a 12 percent market share.

 

Handheld hardware sales have decreased for 3DS, Vita, and PSP for two weeks.  The Vita has outsold the PSP for 27 straight weeks. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has decreased this week to 60,000 units, from 64,000 units last week.

The 3DS has a 71 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 29 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks the Vita is up, while the 3DS and PSP are down.

Worldwide Software

Four games debuted in the top 30 this week.  Titanfall (X360) debuted at number one with sales of 398,404. The game launched worldwide.

3rd Super Robot Wars Z Jigoku Hen (PS3) debuted at number two with sales of 148,008. The PlayStation Vita version debuted at number three. The game launched in Japan.

Kinect Sports Rivals (XOne) debuted at number five with sales of 90,919. The game launched in Europe and North America.

LEGO The Hobbit (X360) debuted at number 10 with sales of 48,447. The PlayStation 3 debuted at number 11 with sales of 47,087. The PlayStation 4 version debuted at number 16 with sales of 36,967. The game launched in Europe and North America.

Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Titanfall (XOne) is at number four with sales of 120,137. inFAMOUS: Second Son (PS4) is at number six with sales of 66,472. Minecraft (X360) is at number seven with sales of 63,667. The Elder Scrolls Online (PC) is at number eight with sales of 50,824. Call of Duty: Ghosts (PS3) is at number nine with sales of 48,791.

 

Software home console sales week-on-week is up for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and Xbox One.  The PlayStation 3 sold 1.53 million games, an increase of 126,976 units (9%).  The Xbox 360 sold 1.45 million games this week, an increase of 486,117 units (50%). The Wii sold 389,262 games, a decrease of 8,633 units (-2%). The Xbox One sold 380,126 games, an increase of 115,158 (43%). PlayStation 4 software sales are down 53,835 units (-13%) to 355,744 games sold. The Wii U sold 208,399 games, an increase of 4,751 (2%).

Handheld software sales week-on-week is down for the Vita. The 3DS sold 503,095 games, which down 42,410 units (-8%). The Vita sold 294,412 games, an increase of 90,433 units (42%) week-on-week. DS game sales are down 6,889 units (-2%) to 294,412 games sold. The PSP sold 94,680 games, a decrease of 10,647 (-10%). Total combined software is up 701,021 units (15%) week-on-week to 5.51 million.

Year-on-year software totals is up for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and Vita. The PlayStation 3 is up 197,113 units (15%), the Wii is down 182,404 units (-32%), the Xbox 360 is up 191,115 units (15%), and the Wii U is up 81,575 units (64%). The DS is down 92,024 units (-24%), the PSP is down 35,463 units (-27%), the 3DS is down 130,696 units (-21%), and the Vita is up 186,421 units (160%). Total combined software is up 951,507 units (-21%) games sold year-on-year.

 

Home console software sales have increased for the Wii U for three weeks, and one week for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. The Wii has decreased for two weeks and three weeks for the PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 3 has a 45 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 43 percent market share; and the Wii has a 12 percent market share. The PlayStation 4 has a 38 percent market share for the eighth generation, the Xbox One has a 40 percent market share, and the Wii U has a 22 percent market share.

 

Handheld software sales have increase for the Vita for one week. Sales have decreased for the 3DS, DS, and PSP for two weeks. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS sold nearly two times more games than the Vita. The DS sold three times as many games as the PSP.

The DS has a 76 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 24 percent market share. The 3DS has a 62 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 38 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the DS, PSP, and Vita are up, while the 3DS is down.
