Overview

Overall, hardware sale this week decreased by 15 percent. Week-on-week sales is only up for the Xbox 360. Overall year-on-year sales are down by 11 percent. The PlayStation Vita is the only platform up year-on-year.

Two games debuted in the top 30 this week.  The Elder Scrolls Online (PC) debuted at number one with sales of 253,316. The game launched in North America and Europe.

Software milestones this week in the top 30: inFAMOUS: Second Son (PS4) topped the one million mark.

Worldwide Hardware

Hardware 

Hardware home console sales week-on-week is up for the Xbox 360. PlayStation 4 sales are down 11,170 (-6%) to 163,867 units sold. Xbox One sales are down 6,815 (-7%) to 85,073 units sold. PlayStation 3 sales are down 12,615 (-18%) to 57,041 units sold. Wii U sales are down 6,949 (-17%) to 33,822 units sold. The Xbox 360 sold 29,684 units, an increase of 676 (2%). The Wii sold 9,330 units, a decrease of 1,097 (-11%).

Handheld sales week-on-week is down for the PSP, 3DS and Vita. The 3DS sold 111,176 units, which is down 33,066 (-23%) week-on-week. The PlayStation Vita sold 49,947 units which is down 23,769 (-32%) compared to last week. The PSP is down 2,108 (-14%) to 12,866 units sold. Total week on week sales are down 96,913 units (-15%) to 552,806 units sold.

The Vita is up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 89,706 (-61%), the Wii is down 27,247 (-74%), the Xbox 360 is down 77,122 (-72%), and the Wii U is down 10,389 (-23%). The PSP is down 49,660 (-79%), the Vita is up 8,590 (21%) and the 3DS is down 54,768 (-33%). Year on year sales are down 69,268 units (-11%).

 Hardware Home Consoles

Home console hardware sales have increased for the Xbox 360 for two weeks and one week for the PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360. The PlayStation 3, Wii, and Wii U have decreased for one week, two weeks for the PlayStation 4 and three weeks for the Xbox One.

The PlayStation 3 has a 59 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 31 percent market share; and the Wii has a 10 percent market share. The PlayStation 4 has a 58 percent market share for the eighth generation, the Xbox One has a 30 percent market share and the Wii U has an 12 percent market share.

 Hardware Handhelds

Handheld hardware sales have decreased for 3DS, Vita, and PSP for one week.  The Vita has outsold the PSP for 26 straight weeks. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has increased this week to 61,000 units, from 71,000 units last week.

The 3DS has a 69 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 31 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks the Vita is up, while the 3DS and PSP are down.

Worldwide Software

Two games debuted in the top 30 this week.  The Elder Scrolls Online (PC) debuted at number one with sales of 253,316. The game launched in North America and Europe.

MLB 14 The Show (PS3) is at number five with sales of 68,274. The Vita version debuted at number 29 with sales of 20,716. The game launched in North America.

Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: . inFAMOUS: Second Son (PS4) is at number two with sales of 103,463. Titanfall (XOne) is at number three with sales of 95,865. Diablo III (PC) is at number four with sales of 70,474.

Minecraft (X360) is at number six with sales of 60,523. Mario Party Island Tour (3DS) is at number seven with sales of 58,220. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (PS4) is at number eight with sales of 57,734. Pokémon X/Y (3DS) is at number nine with sales of 48,670. Grand Theft Auto V (PS3) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 44,331.

 Software

Software home console sales week-on-week is up for the Wii U.  The PlayStation 3 sold 1.40 million games, a decrease of 214,421 units (-13%).  The Xbox 360 sold 962,671 games this week, a decrease of 30,560 units (-3%). PlayStation 4 software sales are down 163,230 units (-28%) to 409,579 games sold. The Wii sold 397,895 games, a decrease of 3,285 units (-1%). The Xbox One sold 264,968 games, a decrease of 49,973 (-15%).  The Wii U sold 203,648 games, an increase of 4,361 (2%).

Handheld software sales week-on-week is down for the DS, PSP, 3DS, and Vita. The 3DS sold 535,505 games, which down 160,112 units (-23%). The Vita sold 212,860 games, a decrease of 155,802 units (-42%) week-on-week. DS game sales are down 2,489 units (-1%) to 301,301 games sold. The PSP sold 105,327 games, a decrease of 17,065 (-14%). Total combined software is down 792,576 units (-14%) week-on-week to 4.81 million.

Year-on-year software totals is up for the Vita. The PlayStation 3 is down 336,625 units (-19%), the Wii is down 219,704 units (-36%), the Xbox 360 is down 723,348 units (-43%), and the Wii U is up 29,382 units (2%). The DS is down 118,647 units (-28%), the PSP is down 60,744 units (-37%), the 3DS is down 216,526 units (-28%), and the Vita is up 65,464 units (44%). Total combined software is down 906,201 units (-16%) games sold year-on-year.

 Software Home Consoles

Home console software sales have increased for the Wii U for one week. The Xbox 360 and Wii have decreased for one week, the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 for two weeks, and three weeks for the Xbox One.

The PlayStation 3 has a 51 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 35 percent market share; and the Wii has a 14 percent market share. The PlayStation 4 has a 47 percent market share for the eighth generation, the Xbox One has a 30 percent market share, and the Wii U has an 23 percent market share.

 Software Handhelds

Handheld software sales have decreased for the 3DS, DS, and PSP for one week, and two weeks for the Vita. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS sold nearly three times more games than the Vita. The DS sold nearly three times as many games as the PSP.

The DS has a 74 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 26 percent market share. The 3DS has a 72 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 28 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the DS, PSP, and Vita are up, while the 3DS is down.
