Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe has confirmed to VideoGamer that three gaming studios have been hit with layoffs. UK studios SCE London Studio, Guerrilla Cambridge and Evolution Studios have all been hit with layoffs. However, the number of people laid off is not yet known.

"As part of this process, we have reviewed and assessed all current projects and have decided to make some changes to some of our European Studios. As a result of this, there will be a focused restructure within London Studio, Guerrilla Cambridge Studio and Evolution Studio to ensure that the SCE WWS is in the best position to achieve their goals going forward.

"Our first party development studios are key to our creative strategy and we are very excited about the future projects being worked on."

Evolution Studios is currently developing the PlayStation 4 title DriveClub. SCE London Studio is rumored to be developing an unannounced PlayStation 4 title. Guerrilla Cambridge last developed KIllzone Mercenary for the PlayStation Vita. It is not known what they are working on right now.

I don't think it should be a surprise to anyone when you hear about sony laying off people. I mean all they do is lose billions of dollars. It has become the norm in sony to be laid off.

Typical Japanese company, offer full protectionism to homegrown staff and hit the foreign takeovers hard... After all, they'll still buy your Japanese made products. I still despise the fact Sony shut down Psygnosis in Liverpool, after all they'd made off the back of that studio, and after all the creativity and efforts of the staff. Pretty disgusting!

They are in the middle of restructuring, this wasn't a knee jerk decision. Nothing is closing down, relax. Believe in Kaz!

First California now Europe? This is sad, I hope those people can find new jobs soon.

Even if Sony is making money, they are losing too much in paying off their debts. Those debts come with interest. Even if they are winning the console war now, they are still losing to the interest. Sony wants to pay that down as fast as possible just in case. Another year and they will be past the worst of it.

Awful news, and Killzone Shadowfall was a masterpiece, I loved, SPECIALLY the single player campaign, what gives?

kumagawa (on 25 March 2014)

Sony has been loosing money for year, it just too costly to allow developers to idle doing nothing, while the framework of the next game is being put into place.

The worrisome part of this is this is the forth studio in recent weeks they have trimmed down. And if they are anything like the trimming at San Monica studios that means Sony may not have many games that are being made for the the immediate future, from these studios.
