Overall, hardware sale this week decreased by 34 percent. Week-on-week sales are up for the PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PSP, 3DS, and Vita. Overall year-on-year sales are down by 24 percent. The Wii U is the only platform up year-on-year.
Five games debuted in the top 30 this week. Thief (PS4) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 259,655. The Xbox One version debuted at number two with sales of 159,841. The game launched in North America and Europe.
There are no software milestones this week in the top 30.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week-on-week are up for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox One, and down for the Wii, Xbox 360, Wii U and PlayStation 4. PlayStation 4 sales are down 287,425 (-64%) to 162,280 units sold. Xbox One sales are up 10,660 (19%) to 59,041 units sold. PlayStation 3 sales are up 1,425 (2%) to 59,712 units sold. Wii U sales are down 5,041 (-11%) to 39,462 units sold. The Xbox 360 sold 25,686 units, a decrease of 3,096 (-11%). The Wii sold 12,071 units, a decrease of 811 (-6%).
Handheld sales week-on-week is up across the board. The 3DS sold 122,720 units, which is up 1,690 (1%) week-on-week. The PlayStation Vita sold 44,796 units which is up 4,343 (11%) compared to last week. The PSP is up 93 (1%) to 15,207 units sold. Total week on week sales are down 278,162 units (-34%) to 549,363 units sold.
The Wii U is up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 120,431 (-67%), the Wii is down 32,967 (-73%), the Xbox 360 is down 92,716 (-78%), and the Wii U is up 10,061 (34%). The PSP is down 57,210 (-79%), the Vita is down 42,099 (-48%) and the 3DS is down 43,532 (-26%). Year on year sales are down 172,514 units (-24%).
Home console hardware sales have increased for the Xbox One for two weeks and one week for the PlayStation 3. The Wii U and PlayStation 4 have dropped for one week, while the Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3 have decreased for two straight weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 61 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 26 percent market share; and the Wii has a 12 percent market share. The PlayStation 4 has a 60 percent market share for the eighth generation, the Xbox One has a 25 percent market share and the Wii U has a 15 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all six home consoles are down.
Handheld hardware sales have increased for the 3DS, Vita, and PSP for one week. The Vita has outsold the PSP for 21 straight weeks. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has decreased this week to 78,000 units, from 81,000 units last week.
The 3DS has a 73 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 27 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks the3DS, Vita, and PSP are down.

Harvest Moon: Linking The New World (3DS) debuted at number four with sales of 125,973. The game launched in Japan.
Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare (XOne) debuted at number five with sales of 91,094. The Xbox 360 version debuted at number six with sales of 84,232. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Kaseki Horider: Mugen Gear (3DS) debuted at number 10 with sales of 58,850. The game launched in Japan.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 (PS3) debuted at number 12 with sales of 58,211. The Xbox 360 version debuted at number 27 with sales of 31,838. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Tales of Symphonia Chronicles (PS3) is at number three with sales of 127,761. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (WiiU) is at number seven with sales of 76,811. The LEGO Movie Videogame (X360) is at number eight with sales of 67,204. Knack (PS4) is at number nine with sales of 64,171.
Software home console sales week-on-week is up for the Xbox One and down for everything else. The PlayStation 3 sold 1.49 million games, a decrease of 31,740 units (-2%). The Xbox 360 sold 1.07 million games this week, a decrease of 89,792 units (-8%). The PlayStation 4 sold 630,883 games, a decrease of 233,702 units (-27%). The Xbox One sold 413,788 games, an increase of 214,381 (108%). Wii software sales are down 53,941 units (-13%) to 366,860 games sold. The Wii U sold 265,999 games, a decrease of 147,011 (-36%).
Handheld software sales week-on-week is up for the PSP, 3DS, and Vita, and down for the DS. The 3DS sold 707,338 games, which up 99,562 units (16%). The DS sold 268,961 games, a decrease of 32,824 units (-11%) week-on-week. Vita game sales are up 27,209 units (-20%) to 162,311 games sold. The PSP sold 108,268 games, an increase of 19,833 (22%). Total combined software is down 228,025 units (-4%) week-on-week to 5.48 million.
Year-on-year software totals is up for the Wii U and down for everything else. The PlayStation 3 is down 113,947 units (-7%), the Wii is down 209,689 units (-36%), the Xbox 360 is down 117,788 units (-10%), and the Wii U is up 190,015 units (250%). The DS is down 32,824 units (-19%), the PSP is down 19,833 units (-45%), the 3DS is down 19,324 units (-3%), and the Vita is down 93,060 units (36%). Total combined software is up 529,370 units (11%) games sold year-on-year.
Home console software sales have increased for the Wii U for three weeks, and decreased for one week for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Wii. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 have decreased for two weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 51 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 37 percent market share; and the Wii has a 12 percent market share. The PlayStation 4 has a 48 percent market share for the eighth generation, the Xbox One has a 32 percent market share, and the Wii U has a 20 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all six home consoles are down.
Handheld software sales have increased for the PSP for two straight weeks, and one week for the 3DS and Vita. The DS has dropped for one week. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS sold more than four times as many games as the Vita. The DS sold more than two times as many games as the PSP.
The DS has a 71 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 29 percent market share. The 3DS has an 81 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 19 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are down.
