Overall, hardware sale this week increased by seven percent. Week-on-week sales are up for every platform except for the Wii and PSP. Overall year-on-year sales are down by four percent. The Wii U and PlayStation Vita are the two platforms up year-on-year.
Three games debuted in the top 30 this week. Kidou Senshi Gundam: Extreme VS Full Boost (PS3) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 268,123. The game launched in Japan.
There are no software milestones this week in the top 30.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week-on-week are up for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and down for the Wii. PlayStation 4 sales are up 24,347 (17%) to 170,756 units sold. Xbox One sales are down up 5,449 (-7%) to 82,444 units sold. PlayStation 3 sales are up 4,125 (6%) to 71,651 units sold. Wii U sales are up 5,906 (14%) to 48,224 units sold. The Xbox 360 sold 40,848 units, an increase of 2,467 (6%). The Wii sold 13,860 units, a decrease of 835 (-6%).
Handheld sales week-on-week is up for the 3DS and Vita, and down for the PSP. The 3DS sold 138,318 units, which is up 4,189 (3%) week-on-week. The PlayStation Vita sold 41,875 units which is up 66 (0%) compared to last week. The PSP is down 3,159 (-15%) to 18,159 units sold. Total week on week sales are up 42,555 units (7%) to 626,135 units sold.
The Vita and Wii U are both up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 101,657 (-59%), the Wii is down 27,982 (-67%), the Xbox 360 is down 80,827 (-66%), and the Wii U is up 12,029 (33%). The PSP is down 3,159 (-77%), the Vita is up 10,430 (33%) and the 3DS is down 12,915 (-9%). Year on year sales are down 29,411 units (-4%).
Home console hardware sales have increased for every platform for one week, except for the Wii which has dropped for six straight weeks. The Wii U has outsold the Wii for 20 straight weeks. The PlayStation 4 has outsold the PlayStation 3 for 10 straight weeks. The Xbox One has outsold the Xbox 360 for nine straight weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 57 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 32 percent market share; and the Wii has a 11 percent market share. The PlayStation 4 has a 57 percent market share for the eighth generation, the Xbox One has a 27 percent market share and the Wii U has a 16 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all six home consoles are down.
Handheld hardware sales have increased for the 3DS and Vita for one week and decreased for the PSP for five straight weeks. The Vita has outsold the PSP for 17 straight weeks. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has increased this week to 96,000 units, from 92,000 units last week.
The 3DS has a 77 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 23 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks the3DS, Vita, and PSP are down.
Worldwide Software
Three games debuted in the top 30 this week. Kidou Senshi Gundam: Extreme VS Full Boost (PS3) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 268,123. The game launched in Japan.
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition (PS4) debuted at number two with sales of 139,838. The Xbox One version debuted at number 12 with sales of 48,701. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Makai Senki Disgaea 4 Return (PSV) debuted at number 22 with sales of 32,639. The game launched in Japan.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Minecraft (X360) is at number three with sales of 71,304. Grand Theft Auto V (PS3) is at number four with sales of 65,979. Pokémon X/Y (3DS) is at number five with sales of 65,856.
Call of Duty: Ghosts (X360) is at number six with sales of 64,666. Call of Duty: Ghosts (PS3) is at number seven with sales of 64,012. Diablo III (PS3) is at number eight with sales of 56,481. FIFA Soccer 14 (PS4) is at number nine with sales of 50,945. Grand Theft Auto V (X360) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 50,832.
Software home console sales week-on-week is up across the board. The PlayStation 3 sold 1.64 million games, an increase of 175,791 units (12%). The Xbox 360 sold 1.05 million games this week, an increase of 61,999 units (6%). PlayStation 4 software sales are up 148,103 units (50%) to 445,031 games sold. The Wii sold 406,031 games, an increase of 27,339 units (7%). The Xbox One sold 239,000 games, an increase of 43,490 (22%). The Wii U sold 406,031 games, an increase 13,556 (7%).
Handheld software sales week-on-week is up for the DS, PSP, PlayStation Vita, and down for the 3DS. The 3DS sold 580,712 games, which down 1,177 units (0%). The DS sold 257,507 games, an increase of 31,851 units (14%) week-on-week. Vita game sales are down up 29,076 units (30%) to 174,764 games sold. The PSP sold 92,486 games, an increase of 9,560 (12%). Total combined software is up 539,588 units (12%) week-on-week to 5.11 million.
Year-on-year software totals are up for the Wii U, 3DS, and Vita. The PlayStation 3 is down 36,739 units (-2%), the Wii is down 329,924 units (-45%), the Xbox 360 is down 468,801 units (-31%), and the Wii U is up 119,415 units (114%). The DS is down 126,613 units (-33%), the PSP is down 76,738 units (-45%), the 3DS is up 105.577 units (22%), and the Vita is up 46,716 units (36%). Total combined software is down 83,076 units (-2%) games sold year-on-year.
Home console software sales has increased for the PlayStation 3 for two week and one week for the Wii, Xbox 360, Wii U, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
The PlayStation 3 has a 53 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 34 percent market share; and the Wii has a 13 percent market share. The PlayStation 4 has a 49 percent market share for the eighth generation, the Xbox One has a 26 percent market share, and the Wii U has a 25 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all five home consoles are down.
Handheld software sales has increased across the board for one week. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS sold more than three times as many games as the Vita. The DS sold more nearly three times as many games as the PSP.
The DS has a 74 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 26 percent market share. The 3DS has an 77 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 23 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are down.

I agree, Its faster and easier/better to just read the tables and look at the pictures.
Some simple text above/below the pictures like PS4 (49%), WiiU (25%) is enough.
I appreciate the work done to create those pictures/graphs, but the text is a pain to read as it adds nothing to the simple facts like percentage of market, increase/drop in software sales etc. Please don't take this the wrong way. I love to see such numbers/information, but not in this form. Sorry.

I didn't expect that gap for Tomb Raider DE in favor of ps4.
Really?... Makes perfect sense to me when the other option is on a higher price system that runs the game @ 30fps
