Overall, hardware sales increased by 14 percent week-on-week. Week-on-week sales are up for every platform, except for the 3DS. Overall year-on-year sales are down 13 percent. The 3D and Vita are both up year-over-year. The DS has the biggest drop year-on-year by percent, at 78 percent
Five games debuted in the top 30 this week, up from four last week. Battlefield 4 (X360) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 807,165. The PlayStation 3 debuted at number four with sales of 521,494. The PC version debuted at number eight with sales of 236,674. The game launched worldwide.
There are no software milestones this week in the top 30.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week-on-week is up across the board. PlayStation 3 sales are up 25,905 (15%) to 203,356 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are up 31,795 (27%) to 150,773 units sold. The Wii U sold 80,248 units, an increase of 43,688 (119%). The Wii sold 40,495 units, an increase of 8,142 (25%).
Handheld sales week-on-week is up for the DS, PSP and Vita, and down for the 3DS. The 3DS sold 404,804 units, which is down 8,876 (-2%) week-on-week. The PlayStation Vita sold 77,688 units which is up 13,185 (20%) compared to last week. The PSP is up 5,326 (17%) to 37,455 units sold. The DS is up 1,532 (18%) to 10,278 units sold. Total week on week sales are up 120,697 units (14%) to 1,005,097 units sold.
The 3DS and Vita are both up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 155,663 (-43%), the Wii is down 32,886 (-45%), and the Xbox 360 is down 105,102 (-41%). The PSP is down 27,238 (-42%), the DS is down 35,611 (-78%), the Vita is up 13,185 (3%) and the 3DS is up 121,882 (43%). Year on year sales are down 152,158 units (-13%).
Home console hardware sales have increased for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii for three weeks and the Wii U for one week. PlayStation 3 has led for 43 straight weeks. The Wii U has outsold the Wii for seven straight weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 52 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 38 percent market share; and the Wii has a 10 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago hardware home console sales are up.
Handheld hardware sales have increased for the DS for two weeks and one week for the PSP and Vita. Sales have decreased for the 3DS for three weeks. The Vita has outsold the PSP for four straight weeks. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has decreased this week to 327,000 units, from 349,000 units last week.
The PSP has a 78 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds, while the DS has a 22 percent market share. The 3DS has an 84 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 16 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks the 3DS, Vita and DS are up, while the PSP is down.
Worldwide Software
Five games debuted in the top 30 this week, up from four last week. Battlefield 4 (X360) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 807,165. The PlayStation 3 debuted at number four with sales of 521,494. The PC version debuted at number eight with sales of 236,674. The game launched worldwide.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (X360) debuted at number two with sales of 694,992. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number three with sales of 618,821. The game launched worldwide.
WWE 2K14 (PS3) debuted at number nine with sales of 188,703. The Xbox 360 version debuted at number 10 with sales of 178,518. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Football Manager 2014 (PC) debuted at number 15 with sales of 96,208. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Little Battlers eXperience: Wars (3DS) debuted at number 24 with sales of 49,698. The game launched in Japan.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Pokemon X/Y (3DS) is at number five with sales of 475,313. Grand Theft Auto V (PS3) is at number six with sales of 287,393 units. Grand Theft Auto V (X360) is at number seven with sales of 249,184 units.
Software home console sales week-on-week is up across the board. The Xbox 360 sold 3.63 million games, an increase of 1.34 million units (59%). The PlayStation 3 sold 3.56 million games this week, an increase of 846,885 units (31%). Wii software sales are up 77,640 units (10%) to 836,839 games sold. The Wii U sold 404,550 games, an increase of125,211 (45%).
Handheld software sales week-on-week is up for the DS, and Vita, and down for the PSP and 3DS. The 3DS sold 1.05 million games, which is down 284,462 units (-21%). The DS sold 539,366 games, an increase of 54,162 units (11%) week-on-week. The PSP sold 211,684 games, a decrease of 768 (0%). PlayStation Vita game sales are up 14,609 units (7%) to 223,614 games sold. Total combined software is up 2.18 million units (26%) week-on-week to 10.46 million.
Year-on-year software totals are up for the 3DS. The PlayStation 3 is down 832,173 units (-19%), the Wii is down 378,268 units (-31%) and the Xbox 360 is down 393,481 units (-10%). The DS is down 306,181 units (-36%), the PSP is down 24,499 units (-10%), the 3DS is up 413,098 units (164%), and the Vita is down 59,949 units (-21%). Total combined software is down 1.18 million units (-10%) games sold year-on-year.
Home console software sales have increased for the Wii and Wii U for three weeks and the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for two weeks.
The Xbox 360 has a 45 percent market share, the PlayStation 3 has a 44 percent market share, and the Wii has an 11 percent market share. Compared to ten weeks ago the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and Wii U are up.
DS software sales have increased for five weeks, and the Vita for two weeks. The PSP has decreased for one week and the 3DS for three weeks. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS sold more than five times as many games as the Vita. The DS sold more than twice as many games as the PSP.
The DS has a 72 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 28 percent market share. The 3DS has an 82 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has an 18 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the 3DS, Vita, DS and PSP are up.
