Overall, hardware sales increased by 39 percent week-on-week. Week-on-week sales are up for the 3DS and Vita. Overall year-on-year sales are down 12 percent. The 3D and Vita are both up year-over-year. The DS has the biggest drop year-on-year by percent, at 80 percent
Six games debuted in the top 30 this week, up from three last week. Pokemon X/Y (3DS) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 4,128,542. The game launched worldwide.
Software milestones this week in the top 30: Grand Theft Auto V (PS3) passed the 12 million mark; and Grand Theft Auto V (X360) passed the 10 million mark.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week-on-week is down across the board. PlayStation 3 sales are down 7,869 (-4%) to 174,659 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are down 7,938 (-9%) to 76,296 units sold. The Wii U sold 67,662 units, a decrease of 13,021 (-16%). The Wii sold 21,072 units, a decrease of 408 (-2%).
Handheld sales week-on-week is up for the 3DS and Vita, and down for the DS and PSP. The 3DS sold 423,798 units, which is up 210,486 (99%) week-on-week. The PlayStation Vita sold 96,519 units which is up 72,401 (300%) compared to last week. The PSP is down 2,945 (-10%) to 27,250 units sold. The DS is down 606 (-9%) to 5,816 units sold. Total week on week sales are up 250,000 units (39%) to 893,072 units sold.
The 3DS and Vita are up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 78,816 (-31%), the Wii is down 19,464 (-48%), and the Xbox 360 is down 81,959 (-52%). The PSP is down 33,765 (-55%), the DS is down 23,288 (-80%), the Vita is up 53,658 (125%) and the 3DS is up 212,574 (101%). Year on year sales are up 96,602 units (12%).
Home console hardware sales have decreased for the Wii and Wii U for one week. Sales for the PlayStation and Xbox 360 have decreased for three weeks. PlayStation 3 has led for 40 straight weeks. The Wii U has outsold the Wii for 14 straight weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 64 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 28 percent market share; and the Wii has an eight percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U are up, while the Wii is down.
Handheld hardware sales have increased for the 3DS and Vita for week. Sales have decreased for the PSP for two weeks, and DS for three weeks. The Vita has outsold the PSP for the first time in more than three months. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has increased this week to 327,000 units, from 189,000 units last week.
The PSP has an 82 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds, while the DS has an 18 percent market share. The 3DS has an 81 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 19 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks the 3DS and Vita are up, while the PSP and DS are down.
Worldwide Software
Six games debuted in the top 30 this week, up from three last week. Pokemon X/Y (3DS) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 4,128,542. The game launched worldwide.
Beyond: Two Souls (PS3) debuted at number four with sales of 305,429. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Tales of Symphonia: Chronicles (PS3) debuted at number 10 with sales of 78,304. The game launched in Japan.
Dangan-Ronpa 1-2 Reload (PSV) debuted at number 11 with sales of 74,768. The game launched in Japan.
Soccer Tsuku: Pro Club o Tsukurou! (PS3) debuted at number 12 with sales of 73,181. The Vita version debuted at number 19 with sales 33,319. The game launched in Japan.
Fairy Fencer F (PS3) debuted at number 16 with sales of 39,862. The game launched in Japan.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Grand Theft Auto V (PS3) is at number two with sales of 894,644 units. Grand Theft Auto V (X360) is at number three with sales of 529,058 units. FIFA Soccer 14 (PS3) is at number five with sales of 236,555.
FIFA Soccer 14 (X360) is at number six with sales of 156,446. NBA 2K14 (X360) is at number seven with sales of 121,472. Monster Hunter 4 (3DS) is at number eight with sales of 110,574. NBA 2K14 (X360) is at number nine with sales of 96,961.
Software home console sales week-on-week is up for the Wii, and down for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U. The PlayStation 3 sold 2.67 million games this week, a decrease of 275,012 units (-9%). The Xbox 360 sold 1.53 million games, a decrease of 934,209 units (-38%). Wii software sales are up 44,948 units (13%) to 393,911 games sold. The Wii U sold 194,281 games, a decrease of181,036 (-48%).
Handheld software sales week-on-week is up for the DS, 3DS, and Vita, and down for the PSP. The 3DS sold 4.37 million games, which is down 3.91 million units (844%). The DS sold 219,422 games, an increase of 11,685 units (6%) week-on-week. The PSP sold 97,942 games, a decrease of 4,206 (-4%). PlayStation Vita game sales are up 105,623 units (122%) to 191,942 games sold. Total combined software is down 2.67 million units (38%) week-on-week to 9.66 million.
Year-on-year software totals are up for the PlayStation 3, 3DS, and Vita. The PlayStation 3 is up 550,045 units (26%), the Wii is down 78,130 units (-41%) and the Xbox 360 is down 408,234 units (-21%). The DS is down 1.12 million units (-84%), the PSP is down 78,130 units (-44%), the 3DS is up 3.73 million units (584%), and the Vita is up 104,554 units (120%). Total combined software is up 2.63 million units (37%) games sold year-on-year.
Home console software sales have increased for the Wii for one week, while the Wii U has decreased for two week and the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for three weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 58 percent market share, the Xbox 360 has a 43 percent market share, and the Wii has a nine percent market share. Compared to ten weeks ago the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii are up, while the Wii U is down.
DS software sales have increased for two weeks, while the 3DS and Vita have increased for one week. PSP software sales have decreased for two weeks. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS sold more than 22 times as many games as the Vita. The DS sold more than twice as many games as the PSP.
The DS has a 69 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 31 percent market share. The 3DS has a 86 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a four percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the 3DS and Vita are up, and the DS and PSP are down.
