Gameloft Profits Drop 60%, Hits 800m Games Sold for Smartphones - News

Gameloft has released their financial results for the first half of 2013 which ending on June 30, 2013. Revenue grew 15 percent year-over-year to €109.4 million. Despite the increase in revenue profits dropped 60 percent to €1.8 million.

Gameloft smartphone and tablet sales in the first half have grown by 45 percent year-over-year. This accounts for 61 percent of the total sales, which is up from 48 percent a year ago. Games from 2011 and 2012, such as Ice Age Village, Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour, and MY LITTLE PONY, have helped the company's sales for the first half.

Gameloft has managed to sell 800 million free-to-play and paid games for the iOS and Android and in the last 30 days 150 million people have played their games.

they managed to sell 800million free to play games! HOW COME THEY AREN'T MAKING PROFITS?!!!!!!11111 That's the issue now isn't it with the mobile games market, there is so much offered for free that once you get to the point in a game where they ask you for some money you can just remove the app and download something else for free. They're killing their own market with this model.

I feel like I need to retort, but you're right. To add to your argument though, a lot of people are just simply put off by free-to-play games with microtransactions. It feels like you're being lied to- sure, download our free game! And everytime you play, we'll send a pop up your way telling you about our sweet deals you can buy with real currency, and only give you the option to Share or Buy, with no opt-out button in site(oh except for that microscopic X button in the top right).

I stopped playing Gameloft games because of their microtransactions(surprise!) and odd design choices. Like their space MMO on mobile phones- if you move 10 feet away from an enemy, it instantly regains all its HP and stamina- like wtf? I wish my character could instantly regain all his HP by walking a few steps too.
