Weekly Sales Analysis, 10 August - Tales of Xillia

Overview

Overall hardware sales decreased by two percent week-on-week. Week-on-week sales are up for the Wii U, and PlayStation Vita. Overall year-on-year sales are down 29 percent.  The Vita is the only platform up year-over-year, which is up seven percent. The DS has dropped by 71 percent year-on-year, the biggest by percent.

Two games debuted in the top 30 this week, which is down from three last week. Tales of Xillia (PS3) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 175,109.

Software milestones this week in the top 30: The Last of Us (PS3) passed the three million mark.

Worldwide Hardware

Hardware home console sales week-on-week is up for the Wii U, flat for the Xbox 360 and down for the PlayStation 3 and Wii. PlayStation 3 sales are down 963 (-1%) to 108,630 units sold. Xbox 360 sales is down 123 (0%) to 70,096 units sold. The Wii U sold 37,307 units, an increase of 7,893 (27%). The Wii sold 23,761 units, a decrease of 1,079 (-4%).

Handheld sales week-on-week is up for the Vita, and down for the 3DS, DS and PSP. The 3DS sold 143,216 units, which is down 15,486 (-10%) week-on-week. The PSP is down 2,764 (-6%) to 40,533 units sold. The PlayStation Vita sold 37,564 units which is up 2,574 (7%) compared to last week. The DS is down 615 (-4%) to 8,687 units sold. Total week on week sales are down up 10,563 units (-2%) to 469,794 units sold.

The Vita is the only platform to be up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 34,305 (-24%), the Wii is down 39,575 (-62%), and the Xbox 360 is down 42,400 (-38%). The PSP is down 20,443 (-34%), the DS is down 21,541 (-71%), the Vita is up 2,404 (7%) and the 3DS is down 76,762 (-35%). Year on year sales are down 195,315 units (-29%).

Home console hardware sales have increased for the Wii U for one week. The Xbox 360 has remained flat for one week. The Wii has decreased for one week and the PlayStation 3 for six straight weeks. The PlayStation 3 has led for 32 straight weeks. The Wii U has outsold the Wii for five straight weeks.

The PlayStation 3 has a 54 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 35 percent market share; and the Wii has an 11 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the Wii U is up, while the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii are down.

Handheld hardware sales have increased for the Vita for one week. The 3DS has decreased for one week. The PSP has decreased for six weeks, while the DS has decreased for five weeks. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has decreased slightly this week to 105,000 units, up from 124,000 units last week.

The PSP has an 82 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds, while the DS has an 18 percent market share. The 3DS has a 79 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 21 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the 3DS and Vita are up, while the DS and PSP are down.

Worldwide Software

Two games debuted in the top 30 this week, which is down from three last week. Tales of Xillia (PS3) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 175,109. The game launched in North America and Europe.

One Piece: Romance Dawn – Bouken no Yoake (3DS) debuted at number 12 with sales of 25,450. The game launched in Japan.

Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts:  Pikmin 3 (WiiU) is at number two with sales of 155,318. Dragon’s Crown (PS3) is at number three with sales of 132,778. Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS) is at number four with sales of 57,785. Minecraft (X360) is at number five with sales of 55,035.

The Last of Us (PS3) is at number six with sales of 54,812. Dragon’s Crown (PSV) is at number seven with sales of 51,389. Disney Magic Castle: My Happy Life (3DS) is at number eight with sales of 46,193. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (3DS) is at number nine with sales of 42,652. Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 36,877.

Software home console sales week-on-week are up for the PlayStation 3, Wii and Wii U, and down for the Xbox 360. The PlayStation 3 sold the most games this week with sales of 1.29 million units, an increase of 239,767 units (23%).  The Xbox 360 sold 825,638 games this week, a decrease of 24,552 units (-3%). Wii software sales are up 417 units (0%) to 388,022 games sold. The Wii U sold 251,618 games, an increase of 133,073 (112%).

Handheld software sales week-on-week are up for the DS, PSP, and Vita, and down for the 3DS. The 3DS sold 544,817 games, which is down 97,123 units (-15%). The DS sold 268,476 games, an increase of 15,077 units (6%) week-on-week. PlayStation Vita game sales are up 28,165 units (28%) to 128,057 games sold. The PSP sold 121,169 games, an increase of 2,769 (2%). Total combined software is up 297,593 units (8%) week-on-week to 3.81 million.

Year-on-year software totals is up for the PlayStation 3 and Vita, and down for the Wii, Xbox 360, DS, PSP, and 3DS. The PlayStation 3 is up 135,397 units (12%), the Wii is down 353,731 units (-48%) and the Xbox 360 is down 184,882 units (-18%). The DS is down 157,840 units (-37%), the PSP is down 104,018 units (-46%), the 3DS is down 38,538 units (-7%), and the Vita is up 44,322 units (53%). Total combined software is down 407,672 units (-10%) games sold year-on-year.

Home console software sales have increased for the PlayStation 3, Wii, and Wii U for one week. Xbox 360 software sales have decreased for four weeks.

The PlayStation 3 has a 51 percent market share, the Xbox 360 has a 33 percent market share, and the Wii has a 16 percent market share. Compared to ten weeks ago The Wii U and PlayStation 3 are up, while the Xbox 360, and Wii are down.

The 3DS sold the most software for a handheld for the 33rd straight week and shows no sign of giving up the top spot. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS sold more than four times as many games as the Vita. The DS sold twice as many games as the PSP.

The DS has a 69 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 31 percent market share. The 3DS has an 81 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 19 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the 3DS and Vita are up, while the PSP and DS are down.

Great numbers for Xilia.. but it's not a debut. The game entered the chartz first time when it was launched in Japan long time ago..
