Three veteran developers who were let go when Zynga downsized its Austin studio have formed their own video game studio, Bee Cave Games. The studio has just secured $1.4 million in funding for its first title, Blackjack Casino. The title is currently in a private Beta on Facebook and mobile and tablet versions are also in development.
"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with such a talented and passionate team at Bee Cave Games as we begin to deliver on our vision of entertaining the world with the best casino games of all genres, on all platforms," said Erik Bethke, CEO of Bee Cave Games.
"The social casino genre has seen tremendous growth in the past year, and we believe the team at Bee Cave Games is well equipped to succeed in the sector’s expected continued growth in 2013 and beyond," said Niccolo de Masi, President and CEO of Glu Mobile.
The studio opened its doors in late 2012 by Erik Bethke, Nimai Malle, and Jeremy Strauser. The trio have worked on Zynga games Mafia Wars and Texas Hold'em Poker, Electronic Arts' Madden NFL Football, and Blizzard's Diablo.
