Welcome to the ‘Top 10’ weekly feature. Each week we will be taking a look at the top 10 selling games in a particular genre, platform, most recent month, even sprinkling in the top 10 selling games from a past year. All sales specified will be worldwide, unless stated otherwise. If there is a particular top 10 you want to see leave a comment and it may be featured in a future top 10.
Over the first two month of 2013 we will be looking at the 2012 sales by platform. This week we will be taking a look at the PSP. Last week we looked at the top 10 selling DS games in 2012 and the week before that the launch of the Wii U.
Looking at the top 10 bestselling PSP games in 2012, seven of the titles were released during the year. Also one game was released in 2005, one in 2010 and one in 2011.
The seven games released in 2012 sold a combined 1.62 million units or 74.0 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The one game released in 2005 sold 0.20 million units or 9.1 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The one game released in 2010 sold 0.19 million units or 8.7 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The one game released in 2011 sold 0.18 million units or 8.2 percent of the total games sold in the top 10.
The top 10 bestselling PSP games sold a combined 2.20 million games in 2012. While seven of the top 10 games were released in 2012 none of them were big hits. No game sold 500,000 units for the year and just one game sold more than 300,000 units. The top four games sold more than 200,000. The number five to 10 games sold just under than 200,000 units.
All 10 games are third party. The third party publishers include four Namco Bandai titles, two Sega titles, two Konami titles, one Take-Two title, and one Capcom title. The four Namco Bandai published games sold a combined 1.05 million units or 47.6 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The two Sega titles sold a combined 0.39 million units or 17.6 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The two Konami titles sold a combined 0.37 million units or 16.7 percent of the total games sold in the top 10.
Taking a look at the top 10 bestselling PSP games in 2012, it is easy to see how evenly spread out the games are. No games sold well above the rest. The number four to number 10 games sold within 20,000 units of each other.
Here are the rest of the PSP sales in 2012 outside the top 10: Sony sold 2.92 million PSP’s in 2012. This is a drop of 60.2 percent when compared to 2011. There were also 15.14 million games sold for the PSP in 2012. This is a 52.9 percent drop year-over-year.
29 games sold 100,000 or more units for the PSP in 2012 and 75 sold 50,000 or more units.
1.36 million games sold for the PSP in 2012 were first party, published by Sony. Namco Bandai sold 3.51 million games for the PSP, Konami 1.31 million games and Electronic Arts 0.82 million units.

yeah indeed cool to see that pretty much any PSP being bought today people still get it to play this launch game even tho it was ported to the ps2 later on.
