Hardware sales increased 13 percent this week to four million units. The Wii U is the only platform to be down week-on-week. Year-on-year sales are down 21 percent and more than one million units. The PlayStation Vita is also the only platform to be up year on year. However it was only available in Japan one year ago.
No games debuted in the top 30 this week.
Software milestones this week in the top 30: Just Dance 4 (Wii) passed the four million mark; call of Duty: Black Ops II (X360) passed the 10 million mark; Halo 4 (X360) passed the seven million mark; Assassin’s Creed III (PS3) passed the four million mark; Far Cry 3 (X360) passed the one million mark; Far Cry 3 (PS3) passed the one million mark; Pokémon Black / White Version 2 (DS) passed the six million mark;
Paper Mario: Sticker Star (3DS) passed the one million mark; Wii Sports Resort (Wii) passed the 31 million mark; Kinect Disneyland Adventures (X360) passed the two million mark; FIFA 13 (X360) passed the four million mark; Hitman: Absolution (PS3) passed the one million mark; Hitman: Absolution (X360) passed the one million mark.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week on week are up for the PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360, and down for the Wii U. Xbox 360 sales are up 48,798 (6%) to 806,678 units sold. PlayStation 3 sales are up 57,936 (8%) to 769,445 units sold. The Wii U sold 390,662 units, a decrease of 4,354 (-1%). The Wii sold 330,870 units, which is up 28,902 (10%).
Handheld sales are up across the board week on week. The 3DS sold 1.10 million units, which is up 186,770 (20%) week on week. The DS is up 38,648 (17%) to 263,643 units sold. The PlayStation Vita is up 31,052 (18%) to 202,271 units sold. The PSP sold 134,294 units which is up 56,730 (73%) compared to last week. Total week on week sales are up 444,482 (13%) to 4.00 million units.
The PlayStation Vita is up year-over-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 115,621 (-13%), the Wii is down 544,044 (-62%), and the Xbox 360 is down 266,047 (-25%). The PSP is down 189,385 (-62%), the DS is down 96,672 (-62%), the Vita is up 94,820 (88%) and the 3DS is down 342,606 (-24%). Year on year sales are down 1.07 million units (-21%).
The Xbox 360 is the top selling home console for a third week in a row and for the sixth time in 10 weeks. The PlayStation 3 led for the other four weeks. The Xbox 360 has a 42 percent market share for the seventh generation; the PlayStation 3 has a 40 percent market share; and the Wii has an 18 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all three home consoles (minus the Wii U) are up.
3DS hardware remains well above its rival, the PlayStation Vita, and every other handheld. The 3DS outsold the Vita by more than 5 to 1. The 3DS has outsold its predecessor, the DS, by more than 4 to 1. The PlayStation Vita has nearly outsold its predecessor, the PSP, by less than 2 to 1. The DS has a 66 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds and the PSP has a 34 percent. The 3DS has an 84 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 16 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are up.
Worldwide Software
No games debuted in the top 30 this week.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Just Dance 4 (Wii) is at the top of the charts with sales of 857,832. Call of Duty: Black Ops II (X360) is at number two with sales of 854,604 units. Call of Duty: Black Ops II (PS3) is at number three with sales of 781,881 units. Halo 4 (X360) is at number four with sales of 587,400. New Super Mario Bros. 2 (3DS) is at number five with sales of 515,442.
Kinect Adventures! (X360) is at number six with sales of 502,572. Assassin’s Creed III (PS3) is at number seven with sales of 471,095. Far Cry 3 (X360) is at number eight with sales of 372,985. Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS) is at number nine with sales of 371,547. Assassin’s Creed III (X360) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 360,009.
Software home console sales week on week are up across the board. The Xbox 360 sold the most games this week with sales of 9.72 million, an increase of 1.29 million (15%). The PlayStation 3 sold 7.81 million games this week, an increase of 869,215 (13%). Wii software sales are up 688,210 units (12%) to 6.28 million games sold. The Wii U sold 821,711 units games, an increase of 5,077 (1%).
Handheld software sales week on week are up across the board. The DS sold 3.01 million games, an increase of 328,162 games (12%) week on week. The 3DS sold 3.38 million games, which is up 694,981 (26%). PSP game sales are up 431,411 (86%) to 931,365 games sold. The Vita sold 708,877 games, an increase of 114,822 (19%). Total combined software is up 4.42 million units (16%) week on week to 32.76 million.
Year on year software totals is up for the PlayStation Vita and down for everything else. The PlayStation 3 is down 2.38 million units (-23%), the Wii is down 6.42 million units (-51%) and the Xbox 360 is down 2.39 million units (-20%). The DS is down 2.49 million units (-45%), the PSP is down 775,152 units (-45%) and the 3DS is down 279,532 units (-8%). Total combined software is down a massive 13.29 million units (-29%) games sold year on year.
Software sales have increase for three weeks for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii and have increased for the Wii U for one week. The Xbox 360 has led for the seventh straight week and for the eighth time in 10 weeks. The PlayStation 3 led for the other two weeks. The Xbox 360 has a 41 percent market share, the PlayStation 3 with 33 percent, and the Wii with 26 percent. Compared to ten weeks ago all three home consoles (minus the Wii U) are up.
The 3DS sold the most software this week and has increased for the third straight week. It has also led for four of the last 10 weeks. The DS led for the other six weeks. The DS has a 77 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 23 percent market share. The 3DS has an 83 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 17 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the all four handhelds are up.
