Halo 4 Sells Over 3 Million Units Opening Day - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 07 November 2012 / 41,589 Views

Halo 4 has set a franchise record for biggest opening day. The game sold 3.1 million units according to VGChartz estimates. The majority of the sales were in the USA which sold 1.9 million units or 60 percent of the total sales. To compare, this is an increase of about 15 percent over Halo 3 and Halo: Reach day one sales.

Halo 4 Day One Sales

Halo 4 is expected to sell about four million units worldwide by the end of the week. This is an increase over Halo 3 which sold 3.8 million units worldwide in its first week and an increase over Halo: Reach which sold 3.7 million units.

If sales hold up for the rest of the week it would become the biggest launch for an exclusive console game in history. However it would not break the record for biggest opening, which goes to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 which sold a combined 14 million units and 7.5 million units on the Xbox 360.

Halo 4 launched in North America and across Europe, with a release date in Japan on November 8.

I seriously doubt blops 2 will beat mw3 considering it has 700000 less pre orders.

@penzus, I doubt there under tracked by 700000 maybe 200k most, and why would that game be off but nothing else?

Interesting to see Xbox 360 hardware spike in next weeks sales report. ;)

I am very impressed, especially considering that 360's weekly sales are the lowest they've been in years. And if there's no new Halo game next fall, this game could have great legs.

Amazing sales, but this game launched in November. I was expecting slightly higher sales. Now I don't think it will be able to pass Halo: Reach, but I guess that depends on word of mouth more than anything.

Beat Call of Duty on 360 and we'll see what it means to be the real beast.

Over the years, COD has accomplished a far better deserving place in the gamer's hearts. Bungie steps out when 343 decides to continue this mayhem.

Pokemon has never sold 2.1-2.2m in its 1st day in the USA

Impressive sales...however, it's USA pre-orders were 1,820k and apparently it's only sold 1,900k on its first day...which means only 80k people who bought it yesterday hadn't pre-ordered it? I call BS. It probably sold 2.1-2.2m in the USA yesterday.

No other exclusive franchise comes close!

Or pre-orders were overtracked....

If anything, vgchartz pre-orders were untracked. Benvtrigger (GameStop insider) said that it crossed 1 million pre-orders in the USA a few weeks before it reached 1 million USA pre-orders according to vgchartz.
