Welcome to the ‘Top 10’ weekly feature. Each week we will be taking a look at the top 10 selling games in a particular genre, platform, most recent month, even sprinkling in the top 10 selling games from a past year. All sales specified will be worldwide, unless stated otherwise.
This week we will be looking at the top 10 bestselling games in June 2012. Last week we looked at the top 10 selling games published by Namco-Bandai and the week before that the top 10 selling games published by Konami. If there is a particular top 10 you want to see leave a comment and it may be featured in a future top 10.
Looking at the top 10 bestselling games of June 2012, three games are for a Microsoft platform, three are for a Nintendo platform, three are for a Sony platform, and the other game is for the PC. There are three games for the Xbox 360, three for the PlayStation 3, two for the DS, one for the 3DS, and one for the PC. Three of the games were released this month, June 2012, while six were released in May 2012 and one in March 2012.
The top 10 games sold a combined 5.23 million units. The three Xbox 360 games sold a combined 980,000 units, or 18.7 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The three games averaged 326,000 units sold each. The three PlayStation 3 games sold a combined 750,000 units, or 14.3 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The three games averaged 250,000 units sold each. The two DS games sold 2.25 million units, or 43.0 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The two games averaged 1.125 million units sold each. The one 3DS sold game 780,000 units, or 15.0 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The one PC sold game 470,000 units, or 9.0 percent of the total games sold in the top 10.
Taking a look at the top 10 bestselling games of June 2012 it is easy to see how one game, Pokémon Black / White Version 2 (DS) dominated sales for the month. The game was only available for two weeks and only in Japan. The game sold more than the other four games in the top five combined.
Two versions of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and Max Payne 3 are in the top 10. Ghost Recon sold a combined 650,000, while the Xbox 360 version sold 420,000 and the PlayStation 3 version 230,000. Max Payne 3 sold a combined 570,000, while the Xbox 360 version sold 310,000 and the PlayStation 3 version 260,000.
As a quick note the top 13 games in June sold more than 200,000 units and the top 37 sold more than 100,000. Here are the hardware sales for the month of June. The 3DS sold 781,332 units, the PlayStation 3 602,058 units, the Xbox 360 450,504 units, the PlayStation Vita 301,804 units, the Wii 241,264 units, the PSP 231,034, and the DS 200,743 units.
