Welcome to the ‘Top 10’ weekly feature. Each week we will be taking a look at the top 10 selling games in a particular genre, platform, most recent month, even sprinkling in the top 10 selling games from a past year. All sales specified will be worldwide, unless stated otherwise.
This week we will be looking at the top 10 bestselling games published by Namco-Bandai. Last week we looked at the top 10 selling games published by Konami and the week before that the top 10 selling games published by Take-Two. If there is a particular top 10 you want to see leave a comment and it may be featured in a future top 10.
Looking at the top 10 bestselling games published by Namco-Bandai, nine of the 10 games are on a Sony platform, with the other game on a Nintendo platform. Six of the games are for the PlayStation, three are for the PlayStation 2 and one is for the Gameboy Advance. Six of the top 10 selling games are for the Tekken franchise, four are for the PlayStation and two are for the PlayStation 2. The other four games are for the Namco Museum lineup of games, which are compilation games of mostly the companies 1980s and 1990s arcade games.
The top 10 games sold a combined 43.61 million units. The six PlayStation games sold a combined 28.08 million units, or 64.4 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The six games averaged 4.68 million units sold each. The three PlayStation 2 games sold a combined 11.29 million units, or 25.9 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The three games averaged 3.76 million units sold each. The one Gameboy Advance game sold 4.24 million units, or 9.7 percent of the total games sold in the top 10.
Taking a look at the top 10 bestselling Namco-Bandai games it is easy to see that the Tekken franchise peaked with the released of Tekken 3 for the PlayStation. The six Tekken games in the top 10 sold a combined 27.50 million units. The four Namco Museum games sold a combined 16.11 million units.
As a quick note the Tekken franchise has sold 35.22 million units to date. The first three Tekken games were released on the PlayStation and sold a combined 16.15 million units, or an average of 5.38 million each on average. There were also three games in the franchise released for the PlayStation 2 and sold a combined 11.36 million, or 3.79 million each on average. Tekken 6 for the PlayStation 3, PSP and Xbox 360 sold a combined 3.77 million units. The Tekken franchise is still a three million seller for main numbered releases.
